The Spiritual Recovery Process From AddictionThe Spiritual Recovery Process From Addiction

“It’s important to remember that spirituality is not the same as religion,” says Living Sober program director Brad Hanley. “Many of our clients were raised in a religion but never really explored its actual meaning. Before coming to us, they had no idea how to explore their spirituality.”

Many addiction professionals consider addiction a bio-psycho-social and spiritual disease—a condition with severe detrimental impacts on all four aspects. The Dictionary of Psychology of the American Psychological Association (APA) describes spirituality as “a concern for or sensitivity to thing...

Job Search in Recovery

Successfully applying for a job in recovery is not exactly the easiest task. Overcoming the stigma of addiction is frequently part of the challenge. Living Sober will prepare you for it, though.

Choosing to open up about what you’ve been through could help combat preexisting notions people hold about what it means to struggle with substance misuse. We’re experiencing a critical time in the evolution toward viewing addiction as a disease instead of a moral failing. Still, you must decide what’s best for you.

Be consistent: in the age of the internet, your prospective employer will likely look you up online. If you do not wish to address your recovery during the job hunt, make sure your social media presence is consistent with your wish for privacy. Consider your options. There are several points at which you could address your recovery. You could choose to disclose your experiences upfront in a cover letter or application, open up during an interview, wait until after you’ve been hired, or opt against sharing entirely.

If you do disclose that you’re in recovery, be prepared for prejudice. Unfortunately, discussing your path to recovery may elicit negative reactions from people who don’t understand what you’ve been through. Living Sober will help you prepare for this challenge.

Most importantly, you must consider your own needs when applying for a new position and strive to find a supportive environment. If you would not be comfortable sharing a critical part of your experience with someone up front, would you be comfortable working for them over the long haul?

Program Curriculum: The Importance of Financial Planning in Early Recovery

Living Sober is a nonclinical program providing transitional support for people beginning their recovery journey for the first time, as well as for those who are stepping down from a higher level of care and want to give themselves the best chance for success. Our curriculum focuses on 12-Step immersion and each day begins with a beach reading and meditation.

However, teaching essential life skills such as financial and employment competence is also part of our sophisticated recovery plan that goes well beyond abstinence from drugs and alcohol. Solid financial planning and fiscal responsibility are important skills to possess on the recovery journey as overwhelming money problems are one of the many contributors common to relapse.

At Living Sober, clients learn to keep an eye on where their money goes, how to use bank accounts, and how to organize their financial records in a meaningful way. Many people in early recovery are on a tight budget and possibly without a job as a result of their disease.

The program covers a lot of territory, such as taking an inventory of your monthly income and expenses, running a credit score check, documenting all income sources, leveraging online budgeting tools, and generally organizing your finances.

Compassion is their key commitment, treating patients with respect and dignity. “Nobody is expected to turn into a super athlete but a short workout to get the heart rate going can be a powerful recovery tool,” says Hanley.

A Structured Treatment Program for Early Recovery

Living Sober is a nonclinical program that provides transitional support for people beginning their recovery journey for the first time, as well as for those who are stepping down from a higher level of care and want to give themselves the best chance for success.

Our three-phased approach provides increasing independence and is a safe place to explore the many facets of a healthy life of sobriety. The program focuses on 12-Step immersion with a structure reflecting the 12 Steps first developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Each day begins with a beach reading and meditation. Each week the group focuses on a particular Step-themed topic such as “Acceptance,” “Hope for Change,” “Courage to Keep Going,” Humility,” or “Willingness to Change.”

Understanding How Treatment Options May Be Different in January

“Some deductibles are significant and that limits treatment options for some people with addiction,” says Living Sober’s program director Brad Hanley. “We offer much more affordable prices for our plans, actually beating some of those pricey deductibles. We can get people access to affordable care right away.”

Living Sober can work so that clients can get good quality care without having to worry about coverage. “We work to make things simple and affordable to reduce barriers,” says Hanley. “When you reach out to us, you will speak with an admissions specialist who will listen to your situation, walk you through the phases of our program, and provide information on financial considerations so you can get started.”
