It’s warming up outside which means it’s time to get outdoors! Take advantage of the awesome temperatures by exercising outdoors. Exercising outside has been shown to increase vitamin D, helps to boost your immune system, helps burn more calories from wind resistance and warmer temperatures, and even helps to release more endorphins. Now that it is warmer, try new and different ways of exercising like hiking or swimming. Challenge yourself to exercise at least 30 min per day!

There are many benefits to exercising regularly. Mental health and depression are greatly impacted by exercising. Regular exercise brings forth higher self-esteem, increasing confidence, lowers stress, improves sleep and helps to lower depression. 1 in 9 cases of depression could be prevented if the population exercised according to health recommendations. A study showed that even smaller amounts of exercise can be beneficial as well. Simply walking briskly for 2.5 hours per week decreases your chances of depression by 25%. Even walking for half that amount of time per week (1.25 hours) shows 18% lower risk of depression. Movement is so important for our mind and body. Starting small still shows great benefits, so don’t be intimidated! Just get up and move whenever and however you can!

Functional Dry Needling addresses the whole body by placing needles strategically in tissues for maximal impact on one or more systems to address physical impairments, motor impairments and sensory experiences within a movement or neurological framework. What this means is that we improve localized pain, blood flow, muscle contractibility and how muscles and nerves interact with themselves with use of a needle. Functional dry needling not only includes using a needle, but may include electrical stimulation and body movements to enhance the effects after dry needling.
