What helped you feel supported during a difficult loss?
When families look back, they don’t remember the flowers. They remember how they felt, who showed up, and the care they received.

🚨 THIS EPISODE MIGHT MAKE SOME PEOPLE UNCOMFORTABLE. 🚨
And honestly... that's exactly why we're having it.
On Tuesday, April 7th at 6:00 PM EST, As The Hearse Turns is welcoming our next guest...
🎤 Brelan Holston
A licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer from Georgia, Brelan graduated top of his class from John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science and is part of the next generation preparing to lead this profession forward.
Raised in a family with deep roots in funeral service, Brelan plans to continue the legacy of Bernard's Family Funeral Care and Donald Trimble Mortuary, carrying on a tradition of service to the community.
But this episode isn't just about career paths...
It's about a conversation the funeral profession has avoided for decades.
⚠️ Why is funeral service still so segregated... even in 2026?
Let's be honest for a second.
There are still funeral homes that predominantly serve Black families.
There are still funeral homes that predominantly serve white families.
Different communities.
Different traditions.
Different histories.
But the real question is...
Why is it still this way?
Is it history?
Is it culture?
Is it community trust?
Or is it something the profession simply refuses to confront?
On April 7th we're not dancing around this topic.
We're having the conversation openly, respectfully, and honestly.
Because if funeral service is truly about serving ALL families, then we should be able to talk about the realities inside our own profession.

Lets talk about what pre-need "sales people" do not want you to know!

As we continue our pre-planning series this is one of the saddest part of pre-planning and it still happens today with Harry Wormwood type funeral director sales people!

Be gentle as people pass by.
They may be going home
to empty chairs, and beds.
Empty hands that once held another’s.
Empty machines once filled with messages.
Walking with empty arms. Empty wombs.
They stroll by you, wishing the sky
would collapse on top of them
so they could see their face again.
Please be gentle with
the grief that fills them
and the loss that left them
empty.

Cremation myth: “Cremation isn’t regulated.”
Let’s talk about it.

🚨 CONSUMER ALERT: Let’s Talk About Pre-Need Funeral Arrangements 🚨
Most people think when they walk into a funeral home to pre-plan their services…
they’re sitting down with someone from that funeral home.
Not always.
Let me say that again louder for the people in the back…
👉 NOT. ALWAYS.
In many cases, the person you’re meeting with isn’t even part of the funeral home staff.
They’re a representative from a third-party pre-need company—a middleman.
And here’s the part no one talks about…
⚠️ That person likely will NOT be the one caring for your family when the time comes.
⚠️ They may never step foot in that building again.
⚠️ And the funeral director who actually serves your family? You’ve never met them.
Let that sink in.
So what does this mean for YOU?
It means you need to start asking questions.
Not awkward questions… not rude questions…
👉 SMART questions.
✔️ “Are you an employee of this funeral home?”
✔️ “Will you be the one handling my arrangements when the time comes?”
✔️ “Who exactly am I contracting with?”
✔️ “Is this being funded through a third-party company?”
Because here’s the truth…
This isn’t buying a couch.
This isn’t booking a vacation.
This is one of the most important decisions your family will ever rely on.
And you deserve to know exactly who you’re trusting.
I’m not saying pre-planning is bad.
Actually—I strongly believe in it.
But I am saying this…
👉 You should never unknowingly plan your funeral through a middleman.
And if someone can’t clearly explain who they are and who they work for…
🚩 That’s your sign to slow down.
Funeral service should never feel like a sales transaction.
It should feel like trust.
And trust starts with honesty.
