Babies begin developing their unique fingerprints around 12 weeks of gestation, when some cells in the middle layer of the skin, the basal layer, start growing faster than the cells in the inner layer or outer layer. These extra cells cause the skin to buckle and fold into ridges.

As the fingers grow, new ridges and branches form!✨

Meet Michelle 👋

Hi, I’m Michelle! I’m a fetal sonographer with over 20 years of experience, and I still feel incredibly grateful to do this work every single day. I found my way into ultrasound after learning that I couldn’t have children of my own. What began as a difficult moment in my life turned into a career that truly filled my heart.

I absolutely love getting to witness the bond between moms, babies, and their families. Being there when parents see their baby, watch them move, or share that moment together never stops feeling special to me. Even after all these years, it still feels like a miracle to see what babies can do inside the womb.

I’m honored to be part of such meaningful moments and to care for families during such an important time in their lives. This job means so much to me -- and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
