James Elton Mason

James “Jim” Elton Mason was born on August 26, 1944, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Arlie Mason and Francis McClung. He was the youngest of six children. He was educated at Putnam City Original High School before proudly serving four years in the United States Air Force.

Jim worked for many years at Severance Supply Company. He later became a successful business owner, operating three NAPA Auto Parts stores for several years. After this, he continued his career in the automotive industry as an outside salesman for Pep Boys Auto Parts and NAPA Auto Parts. Following his retirement, Jim worked at Home Depot for eight years before relocating to Pottsboro, Texas. There, he worked alongside his daughter, Jaimie, at Aft Decks Marine Services working on the boat docks, ordering parts, doing general maintenance, and greeting everyone with a smile at the shop. Jim worked hard, took great pride in everything he did, and always did it well.

Jim was a devoted and loving father. He taught his girls what love truly meant—something they will carry with them always. He taught strength, pride, and the importance of never giving up. He was a coach, mentor, adventurer, and a loyal friend. Jim loved Westerns and was an avid coin collector. He enjoyed working in the yard, home improvement projects, and birdwatching. Known for his hearty appetite in his younger years, Jim always made sure everyone around him was happy and well-fed. Family togetherness was deeply important to him, and he consistently put others’ happiness before his own. With his quick wit, playful humor, and signature ornery grin, Jim had a smile that was truly contagious. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered, always in our hearts.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie Mason and Francis McClung; his brothers, Phillip Mason and Robert Mason; and his sisters, Geri McCraw, Lois Potts, and Doris Tolson.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Mason; his daughters, Sarah Mason, Kim Troutman and her husband, Darin Troutman, and Jaimie Mason; his grandchildren, Jason Troutman and his wife, Lacy Troutman, Chance Troutman, and Blake Troutman and his wife, Brittany; as well as six great-grandchildren.

After giving his all to a long hard battle, Jim passed away on March 25, 2026 to be with the Lord.

A memorial service will be held on April 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home in Denison, Texas.

Vera Ellen Zentner (“Pete”)

(1934-2026)

Vera Ellen Zentner (“Pete”), a beloved sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on March 26, 2026, at the age of 91 in Bells, Texas. Her loss leaves a space in her family’s lives that cannot be filled.

Born on September 30, 1934, in Wilburton, Oklahoma, Vera was the daughter of Raymond and Daisy Glenn. She grew up alongside four siblings, forming strong family bonds that stayed with her throughout her life.

Vera shared many adventures with her late husband, Bud, during his time in the Air Force. Together, they lived in various places around the world. One of her most treasured memories was spending two years in Guam with her husband and daughter, Debbie. Though she wasn’t particularly fond of the water, she loved exploring the island and collecting seashells.

Many people knew her as “Mama Pete” or “Ms. Pete” from her years working at the front door of Calhoun’s. During that time, she met countless musicians—many of whom later became famous—and she loved sharing stories about those encounters. The friendships she built there meant a great deal to her.

Vera found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved cooking, canning, and making Christmas candy with her family. It didn’t take much to make her happy, though she especially enjoyed winning a “few” bucks at the casinos now and then.

She had a generous soul that was always ready to lend a helping hand or go the extra mile for someone in need. Vera wasn’t focused on material things—she valued people most of all, especially her family. She loved others for who they were, and her love for her family was truly unconditional. Vera took special joy in being a grandmother, she spent many hours attending ball games, livestock shows and always celebrating her grandchildren’s milestones with joy and enthusiasm.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Donnie Lee Baggs; her second husband, Geltz (“Bud”) Zentner; her son, Jerry Don Baggs; her brothers, Donald Glenn and Roger Glenn; and her sister, Helen Pinion.

She is survived by her sister, Fonda Cassell of Ambrose, Texas; her son, Randy Baggs of Gunter, Texas; and her daughter, Debbie (Baggs) Richards and husband Paul Richards of Bells, Texas. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jamie and Ashley Baggs of Muenster, Texas; Maranda Florendo of Bells, Texas; Britney and Matt Hubbard of Sherman, Texas; Paul Richards of Bells, Texas; and Ellen Richards of Dallas, Texas. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren—Colton Wright, Brody Baggs, Avery Baggs, and Harrison Hubbard—as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom brought light to her life.

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1st, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Fisher Funeral Home in Denison, Texas.

Thomas Richard (Rick) McCommon, Jr. passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 76 in Sherman, Texas after a short illness. Rick, who lived in nearby Pottsboro, was a generous, loving man, passionate in his religious beliefs, wanting to share his love of God with anyone in his orbit. He came to religion later in life and, following in the steps of his mother, was active in his local church, First Lakeway Methodist Church and later Georgetown Baptist Church. He graduated from Lancaster High School and followed onto service with the Coast Guard in California. He moved back to Pottsboro, running a FedEx route before retiring.

For the latter part of his life, he was active in volunteering – with the local school, with his church, with anyone who needed help. Daily he would write out personal Bible verses for friends in need while early mornings would see him at Pottsboro Elementary School where he assisted schoolkids out of the cars and into school. Without fail, he would greet them with a simple smile, telling them “Jesus loves you”. He knew that many of the children were raised in difficult circumstances and felt then they should at least have that positive greeting to start their school day. On Sundays, he helped manage the fleet of golf carts to ferry churchgoers from their cars to the church. This he did unfailingly, even on days when the weather was poor, even as he himself was struggling physically. He loved his dog Lexie, his constant companion over the last few years.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jake Edwards, Georgetown Baptist Church; Virgie Holbrook, Leap of Faith Church; Alan and Teresa Bergquist; and Kaleb, Meg, EvaLee and Vera West whose support to Rick and the family in the last week of his life helped enormously. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn McCommon and David Bond (London, England); his brother Mike McCommon and his family, Sally, Anakin and Adrian (Whitney, Texas).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Visions of Sugarplum in Pottsboro, Texas. Checks can be sent to Visions of Sugarplums, 501 Spur 316, Suite 104, Pottsboro, TX 75076.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on April 25th at Georgetown Baptist Church.

Just wanted to share a small story about how our mom and dad got together. They both worked at the old Memorial Hospital in Denison in 1975. The hospital that later became Texoma Medical Center in 2009. He was a maintenance worker, and she was a housekeeper. Our mom told us how he followed her home one day after work. She laughed as she told the story, because he kind of got scared and started to turn around. He didn’t know she lived in Oklahoma. Once he got to the Carpenter’s Bluff bridge, he began to wonder, “where is this lady going?” That’s where it all began. That’s their love story. They started having coffee together and meeting for breakfast in the cafeteria. Of course, their friends started to tease them, but they laughed it off. He was known by everyone to be a kind, funny person and mom liked that about him. They married June 12, 1980.

Had us kids and then we had kids. We are their Chongo Locos (crazy monkeys), the name he gave us.

03/17/2026

Some knew him as “Bud Griffith”, “Uncle Bud”, “Pop”, or “Buddy” whichever name you knew him as, one thing was true, He was a Man Who Loved Jesus, Loved People, and never met a stranger.

With a bright smile that could light up a room and a heart devoted to serving others, Bud lived a life that touched countless people and reflected the faith he held so dearly.

Claude Mac Griffith Jr., 92, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and a life devoted to serving others.

Bud was born on June 8, 1933, in Sherman, Texas, to Claude Mac Griffith Sr. and Norma Sally Perkins.

He was married to the love of his life, the late Mary Catherine Griffith, for 58 beautiful years. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family. Their marriage was a true testament to devotion and partnership.

Bud proudly served his country, when drafted, into the United States Army, 1953-1955. He quickly became a corporal and received both Good Conduct Metal and National Defense Service Metal, during the Korean War. After the military, he continued to serve his community as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service for 26 years. He took great pride in his work and in the many relationships he built with the people along his route.

Bud was a proud father to his two sons, Bradley Scott “Brad” Griffith and Shannon Dion “Shane” Griffith. Nothing brought him greater pride than his boys, and he cherished every moment watching them grow and build families of their own.

He was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren, with another precious great grandchild on the way. His family was one of the greatest joys of his life.

Bud loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing throughout his life, finding peace and happiness on the water whenever he had the chance.

Anyone who knew Bud remembers his bright smile, his stories, and the joy he brought into every room. No matter where he was or what situation life placed before him, he held firmly to his faith and believed that God always had a greater purpose. It brought him great joy to serve people daily, and he had a special way of making everyone feel important and valued.

Nine months after Mary’s passing, Bud moved to Nannaw’s Place in Pottsboro, Texas. (Which I’m sure he’s currently hearing about from Mary. )🤣. He loved both the staff and residents. They were so special to him, their families became like his own. They cared deeply for “their Bud”, he was most definitely loved and lived some of his best days there. Our family is forever grateful for the love, kindness, and compassion shown to our “Pop.”

If there is one thing our family knows to be true about “Pop”, it is that he loved Jesus with all his heart. His faith guided the way he lived his life and the way he treated others. We know without a doubt, he will hear the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” It brings our family great joy to know that he’s walking with Jesus, wearing the same bright smile that blessed so many during his time here on earth.

Bud’s life was a beautiful example of faith, humility, kindness, and service to others. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by: His son, Brad Griffith and wife Judy of Sadler, Texas; His son, Shane Griffith and partner Shanda Lawson of Colbert, Oklahoma; five Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren: Christopher Griffith and daughters, Blakely, Charlie and Josie Griffith of Pottsboro, Texas; Jordan Griffith, wife Jamie, son Sawyer and one on the way, of Parker, Colorado; Courtnie Combs and husband Chance, their 3 children Ryleigh, Reagan and RaeLee Combs of Madill, Oklahoma; Elisha Bean and son Ian Copeland of Sherman, Texas; and Malorie Hamner, husband Matt and 2 children Nicholas and Marlee Hamner of Van Alstyne, Texas; His Sisters, Billie Faye Turner of Bonham, Texas and Norma Claudine Allison of Sherman, Texas.

He was preceded in death by: His beloved wife, Mary Catherine Griffith; His parents, Claude Mac Griffith Sr. and Norma Sally Perkins; and four sisters, Evelyn Caldwell, Shirley Heston, Betty Ruth Griffith, and Marie Goldston.

Bud leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, kindness, and service that will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched. While his family will deeply miss him, they find peace and comfort knowing that Bud is now reunited with the love of his life, Mary, and walking hand in hand with the Lord he faithfully served.

A celebration of life will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
