Being a family medicine resident requires a tremendous amount of hands-on training across a wide range of disciplines. This week, our residents and Graduate Medical Education faculty welcomed back a graduate of our program, Dr. Matthew Terhark, Class of 2019, who, along with his peers from Concord Medical Group, taught a course on emergency and critical care training. Experiences like this ensure the next generation of physicians is prepared to provide the preeminent care our region has come to expect from Texoma Medical Center.

When it comes to highlighting how much TMC Volunteers mean to hospital staff, administrators, patients, visitors and the Texoma region, words are not enough. Each year, the hospital recognizes their service by hosting the annual Volunteer Awards Banquet during National Volunteer Week.

The event was held at Venue at 84 West. Following lunch, hospital leaders presented volunteers with special pins and bars recognizing cumulative service hours ranging from 100 to 31,000 hours. Several volunteers were also recognized for milestone service anniversaries, including 10, 15 and 20 years.

If you see a TMC volunteer, please thank them for supporting the hospital and the community.

Yesterday was Medical Services Day for those community leaders participating in the Denison Chamber's Leadership Denison. It was our honor to host the group on our main campus for a tour of our hospital and a presentation and Q/A session with some of our senior leaders and directors. After enjoying a delicious lunch prepared by our fantastic Food & Nutrition Services, the group had some hands-on learning with our Trauma Services team, who taught the Stop the Bleed® course. We love hosting the group each year and want to congratulate them as they celebrate the completion of the program next month.

April is , and as part of our commitment to raising awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation, yesterday we held a celebration that included a flag-raising ceremony.

We gathered together as Steve Snodgrass, our Director of Pastoral/Spiritual Care, spoke to those in attendance about the profound impact of these donations. Kevin Lopez, a local organ recipient, then shared his incredible story and how his life has been transformed by the selfless gift of his donor.

Our ceremony concluded with the raising of the Donate Life flag at the entrance of our hospital. We are profoundly grateful that the legacy of those who chose to be donors lives on through the lives they have touched.

We also want to recognize our dedicated healthcare team members who support families in this life-saving mission, as well as our partners at Southwest Transplant Alliance, who help save and improve lives by recovering donated organs and tissues for transplantation.

Providing wound care education to the communities we serve is a passion for our specialists. Last month, our TMC inpatient team spoke at the Denison Public Library's monthly Lunch and Learn. And last week, Stacy Hicks, MSN, MBA, RN, WCN-C, CSWD-C, wound care program manager at TMC Bonham Hospital, shared important wound care and prevention tips with the Fannin County Retired Teachers Association Fannin County RTSPA.

An estimated 85% of chronic wound cases occur in people ages 65 and older, which is why we want to ensure as many people as possible understand proper wound care and when to seek specialized treatment.

We had the sweetest time at this year’s NICU Reunion! Our theme was Candyland, and our team went all out to celebrate our families as they brought their little (and not so little) ones back to celebrate together. There was no shortage of games, candy and of course hugs! We’re already looking forward to our next one.
