This week’s weather event left our hospital campus under ice, but thanks to our incredible partners at SF Landscaping and Flying G Ag Solutions, our patients, visitors, and staff had a much clearer path into our facility. The difference was remarkable! And of course, we are incredibly grateful to each and every employee for the lifesaving work they provided this week—and every week. Together, we are reaching our goal of being the preeminent provider of healthcare services in the Texoma region!

On January 7, 2026, Will Carter underwent a routine brain biopsy. The following morning, he experienced sudden cardiac arrest. His TMC healthcare team swiftly went into action and performed CPR for an extended period of time. He was then emergently placed on (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) at the bedside. He remained on ECMO for eight days, allowing his body to rest and heal, and was then successfully removed. Today, our hospital team members gathered for a celebratory sendoff as he heads back to his hometown of Wichita Falls, Texas, to undergo rehab to get stronger. TMC is proud to be the only area hospital to offer ECMO. Not familiar with this amazing tool? Learn more about it here🔗: bit.ly/3M37EL9

If you don't have to get out when the temperature is frigid, it's best to stay put indoors. However, for those who must work and need to be out in the elements, please take precautions to avoid hypothermia. Amy Norword, TMC's Manager of Emergency Preparedness and Safety, spoke about how to keep safe in this recent segment of TMC Medical Minutes. Watch that interview here: https://bit.ly/4jTSGn4

Our Trauma Services team has been educating the staff at several area schools, including here at Ector ISD, about the importance of knowing how to "Stop the Bleed®". Our team provides a formal presentation that is followed by hands-on practice of applying direct pressure, packing a wound and using a tourniquet to stop bleeding. We hope that our area educators never have to use these skills, but now they're ready for them!

Over the past month, the TMC Volunteers have engaged our employees in submitting a design to be featured on the T-shirt that they sell in the gift shop, recognizing National Heart Health Awareness Month. There were several amazing designs, and Meghan Amaya's entry came out on top! The very generous volunteers gifted Meghan with a $100 gift certificate to the gift shop with other entrants each getting $10.00 to shop.

You too can get a shirt with Meghan's winning design! They go on sale on Friday, January 23, at $16 + tax. And remember, all Gift Shop sales help the TMC Volunteers support projects all across the Texoma region!

Meet Mauricio Perez, a mental health tech at TMC Behavioral Health Center. We asked Mauricio what he enjoys about his role, and he shared the following:

“I am responsible for the day-to-day care of our patients. I get to be hands-on and provide a level of support some of our patients aren’t accustomed to outside our walls, and that leaves room to hope that we make a positive impact every time.

I enjoy working at TMC Behavioral Health Center because I am given opportunities to network with and gain knowledge from multiple levels of mental health professionals. From other mental health techs to our nurse manager and director, everyone here is a well of knowledge and experience I couldn’t learn from anywhere else. In addition, as an extension of TMC Main Hospital, our Behavioral Health Center receives the same level of employee support and resources.

I know where I want to be in 10 years. And to get there, I had to step into the field in which I will help people better themselves, and the mental health technician role allows me to do just that. In this role, I’m learning how important every position is in the process of improving and researching mental health, and how impactful any one person — regardless of position — can be.”

Advanced cardiovascular care. It's what you can expect from our heart team at Texoma Medical Center. And today, we are proud to announce the successful completion of our first MitraClip® procedure, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to providing high-quality cardiac care to the Texoma region.

The MitraClip® procedure, a minimally invasive treatment for mitral valve regurgitation, offers new hope to patients who are not suitable candidates for open-heart surgery. Mitral valve regurgitation, a condition where the heart’s mitral valve does not close tightly, allows blood to flow backward in the heart, causing symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and irregular heartbeats.

Today's procedure at TMC was performed by TexomaCare's Dr. Apurva Badheka (pictured third from the left), an Interventional Cardiologist who joined our medical staff in December as the newest member of our team of cardiovascular specialists. Dr. Badheka has extensive experience in structural heart interventions, including MitraClip®. He was supported by our multidisciplinary team of highly skilled healthcare professionals, dedicated to providing a high standard of care and patient safety.
