Saturday, March 28, was The Big Event in the city of Denison. Once again, teams of TMC employees and their families came together to make an impact outside our hospital setting. This community-wide day of service, adopted by the City of Denison, Texas Government, brought groups from all across our home city together to help their neighbors with yard work and other tasks that were too great for them to tackle alone. What a great way to start springtime in Texoma!

The buzz around TMC is that Hannah Maloney, PCT, is our newest BEE (Being Exceptional Every day) winner! The BEE Award is given to our support staff for going above and beyond in caring for patients, visitors, and fellow team members. We’re pleased to share a nomination from a grateful patient that clearly shows why Hannah is so deserving of this BEE recognition.

“On a floor with superior techs—full of kindness, empathy, and quality care—Hannah is a standout! I have been here almost a month and came in with staples in the back of my head. My hair had become so matted that everyone, especially my family, said that cutting or shaving it was the only answer. When Hannah heard this, she said, ‘You will not lose all your hair. I won’t have that on my watch! We are saving your hair today!’
She then spent an hour gently combing out every mat, and I ended up with perfectly combed, mat-free hair with two braids! Her compassion and understanding of the importance of mental health made such an impact on me. She was a warrior—an earth angel. She lifted my spirits, gave me pride, and offered constant compliments. My family even squealed with joy and felt confident I was in the right hands. That comfort for them, as they’ve watched my health decline, was a monumental gift. I feel blessed to have had her involved in my care. She is everything your patients deserve.”

Each year, we pause on March 30, National Doctors' Day, to highlight and honor the amazing physicians on our medical staff. As is our tradition, we hosted a catered lunch today in their honor. This event is a special time for the physicians to come and go at their convenience and enjoy a delicious meal together with their fellow providers.

We are incredibly thankful to each physician for leading with both skill and heart. The care they provide and the impact they have across our hospital and community are unmatched. Thank you for all that you do, today and every day. Be sure to join us in thanking your favorite doctor!

One decade later, we're celebrating the remarkable survival of TMC’s first Impella® patient and the advanced treatment options offered through TMC’s nationally recognized heart program.

In March 2016, William Takes Horse was experiencing what he thought was severe heartburn. He took an antacid, but it didn’t help. He also felt pain in his left shoulder and arm, took a baby aspirin and went to bed. The next morning, his wife checked his blood pressure and brought him to Texoma Medical Center’s ER/Trauma Center. His physician, TexomaCare interventional cardiologist Srinvasa Reddy, MD, FACC, says William had suffered a massive heart attack and was in cardiogenic shock. This occurs when blood pressure drops and the heart cannot pump effectively.

“Time was of the essence, so we took William to the heart catheterization lab and inserted the Impella® heart pump,” says Dr. Reddy. The device—still in use at TMC—helps the heart pump more blood, allowing doctors to perform lifesaving interventions.

Now, ten years later, William, who is part of the Crow tribe, says he feels great and remains grateful for the care he received at TMC. He marked the milestone by performing a Native American dance and offering a prayer in his Native language in TMC’s main lobby, in front of many of the same caregivers who helped save his life a decade ago.

William Takes Horse had the biggest scare of his life exactly 10 years ago. Doctors at Texoma Medical Center inserted something called an Impella, a device that takes over the function of the heart, pumping blood throughout the body so the heart can rest.

We are incredibly proud to share that Texoma Medical Center has reached an amazing, lifesaving milestone by treating our 100th patient with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The ECMO program at TMC began in 2019 with one unit, and since then, we have added two additional units. We are the only hospital in the region to offer this technology to our patients.

Caring for ECMO patients involves teamwork and collaboration among numerous groups within our hospital. A celebration honoring those groups and their dedication to providing life‑changing care was held earlier today. If you're not familiar with ECMO, watch this video in which our ECMO Coordinator, Megan Rosenfield, RN, explains its role in helping a patient’s organs rest and heal after injury. 🔗: https://bit.ly/4lQzuaS

This is DVT Awareness Month! Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, commonly in the legs and that can potentially travel to the lungs and can cause a pulmonary embolism (PE), which is a life-threatening emergency. These clots can develop when blood flow slows, a vein is damaged, or when certain conditions make the blood more likely to clot.

At TMC, we proudly offer FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment options for DVT and PE. An alternative to medication management, these treatments are designed to capture and remove life-threatening blood clots from large veins. Today, we celebrated Interventional Radiologist Dr. Saad M. Hussain, who has performed his 200th DVT procedure here at TMC. If you're concerned about DVT/PE, talk with your doctor and then have them call us at 903.416.4247 to schedule an evaluation.

It’s ! Texoma Medical Center proudly salutes the 257 nurses who have taken the extra step to master their specialty through the achievement of certification. To thank them for the important work they do in helping ensure strong patient outcomes and a positive patient experience, we held a dinner in their honor last week.

During the event, certified nurses JaNea Kelso, CCRN; Alexis Cannon, CMSRN, TNCC; and Michelle Heck, CCRN, spoke to their peers about their experience in achieving certification. There was also plenty of fun as 26 creatively themed baskets, put together by departments across our healthcare system, were raffled off to those in attendance.

And to brag a little more: of the 257 certified nurses at TMC, 49 nurses hold two certifications, eight nurses hold three certifications, and two nurses hold four certifications. This dedication to voluntarily expanding their specialized knowledge, skills and experience shows that TMC nurses are leaders in the future of healthcare!
