--Wednesday or Thursday, it moves to Friday (January 30).

Please continue to leave your carts at the curb until they are collected.

🚗While road conditions are steadily improving, lingering ice and overnight freezing continue to pose a risk for early morning travel. As ice continues to that and refreeze over the next few days, please make sure to stay vigilant and cautious on the roads.

Weather Update ❄️

This winter storm continues to impact our community with lingering ice, extremely cold temperatures, and unsafe driving conditions. After closely monitoring the weather and roadway updates—and taking into consideration the closure decision made by Denton ISD—First Refuge Ministries will remain closed on Tuesday to prioritize the safety of our clients, volunteers, and staff.

We know how important our services are to the families we serve, and this decision was not made lightly. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and share updates as soon as it is safe to reopen. ❄️Winter Weather Update: Jan. 26 at 3 p.m.❄️: Different week, same cold weather. Here's what we can expect to see over the next few days in Denton:

--Monday: Despite the subfreezing temperatures, sunny skies may lead to partial melting and minor improvement to travel conditions this afternoon, especially on treated and well-traveled roads. Despite this, we still encourage everyone to remain vigilant and off the roads unless completely necessary. Also, we want to remind everyone that due to road conditions, all DCTA services (including GoZone) have been cancelled today (Jan. 26).

--Tuesday: Refreezing of lingering slush and ice will occur overnight tonight (Jan. 26), which will impact the Tuesday morning commute. Black ice will be of concern on many roads and sidewalks.

--Safety tips: Even though we know many of you are eager to get out and enjoy the playing in the snow, we encourage you to sled safely and steer clear of frozen ponds. Ice can look solid, but it’s rarely safe to walk on! When sledding, choose safe locations away from roads, trees, and other obstacles.

❄️Facility Closures and Service Impacts for Tuesday, Jan. 27❄️
Due to the continued inclement weather and in the interest of keeping our staff and the public safe by staying off the roadways, all City offices and facilities will be closed to the public tomorrow, Jan. 27.

Out of an abundance of caution for our staff based on today (Jan. 26) and tomorrow's (Jan. 27) road conditions, residential collections will now start on Wednesday (Jan. 28) and end on Saturday (Jan. 31).
Therefore, if your regular collection lands on:

📍Monday, it moves to Wednesday (Jan. 28)
📍Tuesday, it moves to Thursday (Jan. 29)
📍Wednesday, it moves to Friday (Jan. 30)
📍Thursday, it moves to Saturday (Jan. 31)

All collection schedules will return to normal on Monday, Feb. 2.

Capacity remains for both overnight and daytime shelter at the Denton Community Shelter (909 N. Loop 288).

For a full list of facility and service impacts, visit www.cityofdenton.com/winterweather.

❄️Winter Weather Update: Jan. 25 at 11:40 a.m.❄️: As the cold weather continues in Denton, here's what to expect over the next few days:

--Sunday and Monday: while the precipitation will mostly come to an end today (Jan. 25), travel impacts will likely continue into Monday (Jan. 26) as temperatures are anticipated to remain below freezing. Please note that due to road conditions, GoZone services have been cancelled today (Jan. 25), and all DCTA transit will be closed on Monday (Jan. 26).

--Tuesday: we're expected to start the day with freezing temperatures before finally getting above 32 by midday.

Even though the sun is out, it's incredibly important to remember that roadways will remain slick for the next couple of days. So stay safe and stay off the roads!
