I donโt usually get political on here, but today Iโm furious.
Hidden inside the bill to re-open the government was a last-minute h**p clause that has the potential to shut down businesses like ours โ a CBD store my sons and I have poured our hearts, savings, and entire lives into. We worked our way from nothing to becoming an award-winning small business, serving customers who rely on us for wellness and support. And now, with one buried clause, everything weโve built is suddenly at risk.
Whatโs even more frustrating? This clause doesnโt take effect for one year โ which means we have a very small window to push our legislators to create COMMON SENSE regulations that protect responsible businesses rather than destroying them.
And I want to be honest about something I personally believe: this isnโt really about โprotecting people from the dangers of THC.โ I believe this has far more to do with the medical cannabis industry protecting its enormous profit margins by squeezing out h**p-derived competitors like us. Thatโs my perspective โ and watching how this unfolded only reinforces it.
This isnโt how lawmaking should work.
Iโve always believed that congressional bills should be simple, clear, and focused. A bill should address one issue โ not thousands of pages of unrelated add-ons, hidden amendments, and political maneuvering. No one should be able to sneak unpopular changes into a must-pass bill, especially changes that threaten the livelihoods of small business owners and the wellbeing of entire communities.
We deserve transparency. We deserve honesty. We deserve lawmakers who donโt gamble with our businesses and our futures.
We have one year to speak up, organize, and demand better. Our communities matter. Our work matters. And weโre not going down without a fight.
