One local heart attack, cancer and stroke survivor is back on the virtual road. He’s participating in neurological rehabilitation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano. He’s also using a new tool to enhance his recovery process – driving rehabilitation.

The driving simulation incorporated into occupational therapy helps improve hand-eye coordination and movement and strength in the lower body.

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth invited several graduate students from UNT Health Fort Worth, majoring in either public health or health administration, for a campus tour. The educational event showcased various careers that promote hospital facilities.

“Everyone in the hospital setting doesn’t have the opportunity to interact with patients and their family members, but they still play integral roles,” said Shahid Shafi, M.D., M.P.H., MBA, FACS, FCCM, chief medical officer at Texas Health Southwest. “Beyond the nurses and physicians on the medical staff, we have compassionate pharmacists, lab and radiology technicians, engineers, supply chain specialists, and so many more collaborating to meet the needs of anyone walking through our doors.”

The event included an interactive luncheon, a Q&A session and a tour of several areas of the hospital.
