January is a great time to refocus on your child’s health and well-being. Choptank Health’s School-Based Health Centers help families start the year off on the right foot with convenient, high-quality care at their school.

Our SBHC offers urgent care–like services for common illnesses, allowing students to be seen during the school day with minimal time missed from class. No appointment is needed for acute concerns, making care easier for families.

Services available through the School-Based Health Center include:
• Urgent care–like visits for common illnesses
• Diagnosis, treatment, and lab testing for acute concerns
• Well visits and sports physicals
• Behavioral health services
• Nutrition support
• Chronic disease management

Families should know that using the SBHC does not replace your child’s primary care provider. We work in tandem with your family doctor to support your child’s overall health.
Enrollment in the SBHC does not change your child’s primary care provider, and we share visit information to ensure continuity of care.

Most services are billed to insurance or Medical Assistance, and many visits have little to no out-of-pocket cost. As we begin the new year, we encourage families to take advantage of this on-campus resource designed to keep students healthy, learning, and thriving.

For questions about SBHC services or enrollment, please contact your school nurse or Choptank Health. You can find enrollment forms and more at www.choptankhealth.org/schoolbased.

When in doubt, call 911.

Like many hospitals across the region and the nation this winter, the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health facilities on the Eastern Shore are currently experiencing a surge in patients presenting with respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses, resulting in a higher-than-usual number of individuals awaiting care in our Emergency Departments.

In response, our clinical teams are implementing measures to address capacity challenges and ensure the continued delivery of high-quality care through staffing and space adjustments.

We remain committed to the health and safety of our community and thank our dedicated team members for their support during this period of elevated patient volume.
