How to increase your chances of living longer, learn the secret to aging well or just look younger.

In 1961, Adelfa Botello Callejo became the first Mexican-American woman to graduate from SMU School of Law. She was the only Latino student enrolled in the law school at the time and only one of three women. Callejo wanted to become a lawyer to help fight injustices in the world around her. After getting her law degree she was unable to find work at law firms beyond that of secretarial work, but that didn't stop her from becoming who she knew herself to be - one of Dallas' most respected, talented, and influential lawyers. She was a community organizer in Oak Cliff, served on many boards and commissions, such as those for the Dallas Housing Authority, DART, DFW Airport, and Dallas' Library Board, and co-founded the Mexican-American Bar Association of Texas (later the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association). Her influence was so broad that some simply called her La Madrina, “The Godmother.” La Madrina passed away from brain cancer in 2014. This I want to recognize Adelfa Callejo, La Madrina, for paving the way for women like me.
