Binge drinking is a dangerous behavior that is becoming increasingly common among young adults. While it is often seen as a harmless way to let off steam, it is important to understand the risks associated with binge drinking so that you can make an informed decision about your habits. Here are five reasons why binge drinking is so dangerous:

1. Health Risks: Binge drinking can have serious health consequences, including liver damage, heart problems, and even death. In addition, binge drinking can lead to a weakened immune system, making you more prone to illness.
2. Accidents: Binge drinking can impair your judgment and motor skills, increasing your risk of accidents. This can lead to serious injuries, property damage, and again, even death.
3. Mental Health: Binge drinking can lead to depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems. Too much alcohol can also worsen existing mental health conditions, making it harder to manage them.
4. Addiction: Binge drinking can lead to alcohol dependence, which can be difficult to overcome.
5. Social Problems: Binge drinking can lead to conflict with others and risky behavior—both of which can have serious social consequences.

Binge Drinking is VERY serious and needs attention. Alcoholism kills many individuals daily and is often seen as a coping skill.

It might be YOU! The first step in change is recognizing the “why” of things.

Being real with ourselves first. Identifying how you feel, what you think, and what your body is trying to tell you.

When our brains experiences pain, the brain sends a signal to do something quickly to get rid of the pain. Sometimes, we try to push the pain out or ignore it and it chases us until we’re exhausted.

Sometimes we walk right into the pain, somehow thinking it will be different “this time” or a certain person might be different.

We’ve been “running away” since we were kids. I think all of us ran away at some point as a child.

And it works!!

Pain is gone. ✔️
New place to keep us busy while setting up our new life ✔️
Distraction from what we were running from✔️
This time will be different ✔️

But it won’t. You’re the same. Wherever you go, you’re still there.

If you want something different, do something differently. If you want something better, do better!

That means digging into all the messy pieces until we’re healed. I mean the really messy aspects of your life, both past, present, and future that you don’t want to think about it.

The more you avoid it, the more it will pe*****te your perceptions of others, situations, and yourself.

Don’t leave. Stay and leave the old world behind. Create a new space - a strong place.

Therapy works. Do it.

People with difficult pasts often have a difficult present. The key to changing this dynamic is getting some help and letting your brain rewrite the stories that you collected during the times of your pain. Your brain and body tries to help you understand what it needs until you give it peace and healing. Sometimes, that comes in the form of broken relationships and an inability to be vulnerable. Getting help can change your ability to connect and can often heal those parts of you that are sending Alerts that things aren’t safe. You have the right to love and you can love. Healing has to come first.

I’ve been working with many people facing being single in a pandemic. Being single can be challenging enough, and being LGBTQ+, cultural differences, and financial differences can decrease the pool of available individuals. Being alone has physiological repercussions. But... being in a bad relationship can have devastating effects and can keep us from working on ourselves or finding someone who is worthy. Keep putting yourself out there in safe ways.. your time will come!

My journey to finding myself almost cost me my life.. an unauthentic, miserable life. Trying to pursue what everyone else thought I was supposed to be, trying to pursue perfection, trying to hide my pain and my soft side. Peeling off those layers and being completely alone in my pain (and a lot of great therapy) helped me find myself. I am whole. I am complete. I am able to help others on the same journey. Pain and discomfort is a conduit for change. Start today!
