Fred Lister Hill, while on active duty in the United States Military purchased the present structure located at 1122 East Mulberry Street, Denton, Texas in 1974 which immediately became People’s Funeral Home. This funeral home was operated and managed by Estella E. Garrett a well known and outstanding member of the community and a former funeral home director and public servant of Citizens Funeral Home of Denton for over 40 years. After Fred Hill’s retirement from the United States Military, he enrolled at Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in Dallas, Texas. He graduated in 1981 as an exemplary student with honors. Hill immediately became one of Denton’s most professional, dedicated and respected funeral directors. As a native of Denton, he was well known for his integrity, love, expertise and devotion to the community in which he served for over 33 years. Clifton Maxfield became the proud owner of Peoples Funeral Home, an aspiring young man who would carry on the quality, compassionate and personal service. We are very proud to have Mr. Maxfield to carry the torch, bringing Peoples Funeral Home to another level of professional service.
