As we get older it becomes harder and harder to make friends, or so it seems. It's harder to build community, connection, and life long friendship. As you have long term partnerships and children become part of your story it can be even more isolating especially as a new parent. Now more than ever community is so important. We know finding and making friends can be intimidating and scary! It makes sense to question whether or not someone will like you, or if they'll think your "weird" but the end result of friendship can make all the discomfort worth it. Knowing that you have someone to reach out to when things are challenging or enjoy a meal with when the mood strikes you can be comforting and mood boosting. Friendships have been proven to give us self-confidence, help us manage adverse life experiences, and strengthen our communication skills. So, the next time you're feeling brave strike up a conversation with someone and see where it takes you. It may take a few tries before you feel brave enough to move into the friendship phase of things but that's ok! All good things take time.
