Feeling constantly overwhelmed, stressed, or mentally exhausted can be a sign your nervous system is under too much pressure. Early signs like irritability, racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating, and emotional fatigue often appear before full burnout or anxiety takes hold.

Learning to recognize these triggers and practicing emotional regulation, stress management, and healthy boundaries can help stop overwhelm before it escalates. If overwhelm is becoming a pattern, support from a therapist can help you build tools to manage stress in a healthy way.

Hidden depression doesn’t always look the way people expect. Many people with high-functioning depression continue working and meeting responsibilities while privately struggling with emotional numbness, exhaustion, irritability, overthinking, sleep problems, and loss of motivation.

If you’ve been wondering whether what you’re feeling could be depression, burnout, or emotional overwhelm, recognizing the signs is an important first step. Support from a therapist can help you understand what’s happening and begin to feel like yourself again.

For people experiencing emotional dysregulation, DBT helps to build skills to understand, tolerate, and respond to emotions in healthier ways. When emotions feel intense or hard to manage—especially during stress—it’s a sign you may need tools, not self-criticism. If this feels familiar, support can help you feel more steady and in control—book an appointment through the link in our bio.

There are many ways to prevent and manage emotional dysregulation, despite underlying biological causes or environmental factors. One of the most important things you can do is get back to basics. Swipe to learn more.

Emotional dysregulation is when your emotions feel intense, unpredictable, or hard to manage—often showing up as overwhelm, irritability, emotional shutdown, anxiety, mood swings, or feeling “triggered” more easily than expected. Learning how to emotionally regulate helps your nervous system respond to stress in a safer, more balanced way, improving emotional control, stress management, relationships, and overall mental health. Understanding emotional regulation skills isn’t about suppressing feelings—it’s about building awareness, resilience, and healthier responses so emotions don’t run your life.
