Big news for CHAIN!

Former Colorado State Representative Leslie Herod is joining the Consumer Health Advocacy & Information Network (CHAIN) as our new Executive Director. Her new role with CHAIN builds on her broader work through LNH Solutions, where she continues to advance arts, community, and policy initiatives that make people’s lives better.

Leslie is widely respected for bipartisan coalition-building and getting results - and she’s the architect of Caring for Denver, a groundbreaking mental health initiative that now distributes more than $30M annually to over 100 nonprofits delivering services across Denver.

We’re thrilled to welcome Leslie as we expand CHAIN’s impact and advance non-partisan, consumer-focused solutions to improve access and affordability in health care.

PBM reform is finally moving at the federal level - and it matters.
In the new government funding law, Congress took a real step toward undoing one of the worst incentives in the prescription drug supply chain by “delinking” PBM compensation from rebates and inflated list prices in Medicare Part D and shifting toward flat, service-based fees. That’s how you start to put patients - not middlemen - at the center.

This is progress - and it should be the floor, not the ceiling. Most PBM business still happens outside Medicare, which is why the next wave of reforms must bring true transparency and accountability to employer and commercial plans, too.

Patients deserve lower out-of-pocket costs - pharmacists deserve fair reimbursement - and everyone deserves a system where the money is visible and the incentives make sense.

Comprehensive Report Cites MA Hospital Among Worst Charitable “Taker” Hospitals

The widely respected Lown Institute highlighted which ‘non-profit’ hospitals make the most in tax benefits and give the least in charitable care.

MA’s Mass General Brigham hospital system is among the ten worst ‘takers’, taking in more than $461m in tax breaks than it gives in charity care.

Our most vulnerable patients pay the price for this mass abuse of so-called non-profit tax status. Tax break monies are supposed to go to charity care, not fatten hospital profits.
