Ahhh yes, the elusive Colorado state flower, the Columbine.
Even though this flower can be tricky to find, it sure is easy to spot. Driving up to this hike, I thought to myself “I wonder if I’ll see any Columbines up here”…. Not even five minutes later, I start seeing them along the road. I gasped in awe and almost asked my friend to pull over so I could stop and look at it, but I had a feeling there would be more.
Sure enough, these stunning flowers were all along the trail, and every time I saw one, I was surprised at just how much I loved them, and felt drawn to their innate beauty and power. When I returned home, I decided to do some rea search on the meaning of these flowers and found the following…
“They are a representation of aspiration since they can thrive at such great altitudes. They are also symbolic of tenacity and endurance. The Columbine is a flower that believes ‘Nothing ventured, nothing gained’. The Columbine, being an alpine flower, is associated with spiritual elevation. The Columbine reminds us that there is much more going on in the world than what we see and feel. The Columbine’s mantra is ‘Faith, not fear’”
Reading this, I chuckled, cus’ who knew a flower could represent so much of what is going on in my life… and who knows… maybe sometimes I feel like a columbine myself, a rare beauty hidden deep within my home state.
