You got 8 hours of sleep. So why are you still exhausted?
The answer is usually your airway.
When your airway is restricted during sleep, your body works hard all night just to breathe, even if you never fully wake up. That constant effort keeps your nervous system in a stress state, making deep, restorative sleep impossible.
Over time, that shows up as fatigue, brain fog, morning headaches, jaw tension, or teeth grinding.
Sleep quality isn’t just about hours. It’s about how well you breathe while you sleep. That’s why I look at the airway, jaw position, and tongue posture as part of every sleep evaluation.
Real rest starts with breathing.
If you recognize these signs in yourself or someone you love, this is worth exploring.

Better sleep starts with better habits, but sometimes habits alone aren’t enough.
These tips are a great foundation for anyone wanting to improve their sleep quality. And yet, so many of my patients follow every single one of these, and they still wake up exhausted, unrefreshed, and foggy.
Why? Because no sleep routine can fix an airway that’s struggling to stay open at night.
If you’re doing everything “right” and still not sleeping well, your airway may be the missing piece. Signs like snoring, teeth grinding, waking up with headaches, or needing to use the bathroom multiple times at night aren’t just inconveniences. They’re your body’s way of telling you something deeper is going on.
As a biological dentist who specializes in airway health, I look at sleep from a completely different angle than most providers. Your mouth, jaw, tongue posture, and breathing patterns all play a powerful role in how well you actually sleep.
Save this post as a reminder to start with these habits, and if they’re not enough, come see us for a comprehensive airway evaluation.
You deserve sleep that actually restores you. 💛

We carry Xlear Nasal Spray right here in our office, and there’s a reason it’s earned a spot on our shelf.
Nasal breathing is the foundation of airway health. But when your nasal passages are congested, inflamed, or blocked by allergens, mouth breathing takes over, and that’s where so many airway problems begin.
Xlear is a drug-free, xylitol-based saline nasal spray made right here in Colorado. What makes it different from regular saline is the xylitol, which doesn’t just rinse the nasal passages, it actually inhibits bacteria and allergens from adhering to the nasal tissue. That means it helps clear the airway AND protect it.
For my airway patients, I often recommend nasal sprays like this to support nasal breathing, reduce turbinate swelling from allergens, and improve overall airflow before we even begin treatment.
Clear nasal passages = better nasal breathing = better sleep = better health. It really is that connected.
We carry both the Daily Relief and MAX formulas with capsicum for more severe congestion. Ask us at your next visit which one is right for you.

We don’t just treat teeth. We protect breathing and sleep for life.
Most people come to us thinking dentistry is about cavities and cleanings. And yes, we care deeply about your oral health. But your mouth is the gateway to your airway, and your airway affects everything, your energy, your focus, your heart health, your mood, your quality of life.
When we look in your mouth, we’re not just checking teeth. We’re evaluating how you breathe, how you sleep, and how your jaw is functioning. Because all of it is connected.
If you’ve been told your sleep study was “borderline,” if you snore, if you wake up exhausted no matter how long you slept, if you grind your teeth or clench your jaw, your airway deserves a closer look.
This is what whole-body dental care actually looks like. And it’s what we do every single day.

Most people don’t realize their dentist can spot airway problems before anyone else does.
Here are 5 signs I look for in both kids and adults:
1. Mouth breathing during the day or at night
2. Loud, frequent snoring
3. Crowded teeth or a narrow jaw
4. Poor sleep leading to low oxygen flow
5. Jaw growth patterns that signal restricted airway development
These aren’t just “dental” issues. They affect sleep, energy, focus, and overall health.
If any of these sound familiar for you or your child, an airway evaluation can uncover what’s really going on.
Early screening makes all the difference.

Every airway evaluation starts with a conversation.
Before I pick up a single instrument, I want to understand your story. How you’re sleeping. How you’re breathing. What your body has been trying to tell you.
This is what whole-person care looks like. We listen first, then we look deeper.
If you’ve been told your snoring is “normal” or your fatigue is “just stress,” I’d love the chance to take a closer look.
