The risk of major complications for patients undergoing hand-assisted laparoscopic living donor nephrectomy was minimal. Only 2.5% of the over 3,000 kidney donors studied experienced major complications, and all recovered completely. Most complications, such as an infection or hernia related to the incision, occurred after discharge, suggesting the need for close follow-up.
To study the complications of hand-assisted laparoscopic living donor nephrectomy (HALLDN) with an emphasis on complications occurring early after hospital discharge up to 120 days after surgery.
