As a white person, I want to be thoughtful about how I show up during Black History Month. This isn’t a time for me to center my own voice or experiences, but rather to listen, learn, and uplift the voices of Black creators, educators, and community leaders who are already doing powerful work year-round.
I’m grateful for the people who share their knowledge, art, and lived experiences so generously. If you’re looking for ways to engage this month, I encourage you to follow, read, support, and amplify Black voices directly.
Today's feature is Dr. Ricky Jones’ powerful series, “Black Professor at a Hostile White University.”
As the Program Director at Denver Family Institute, a training institute for intimate partner and family therapy, I found this series deeply compelling. Dr. Jones speaks candidly about the lived reality of being a Black professor within an institution that is actively hostile, offering an unfiltered account that carries real personal risk. His work illuminates the long and ongoing relationship between race and higher education in ways that are both historically grounded and urgently present.
I strongly recommend watching this series. If it resonates, I encourage you to support Professor Jones directly by liking, following, sharing, and engaging with his work.
Listening matters. Amplifying Black voices matters. Especially now.
