Somnium Therapeutics

Somnium Therapeutics A Massage Therapy practice dedicated to the all encompassing health of clients.

Most of the people who land on our table are not broken.

They are people who have been bracing and holding. Adapting to stress that never really stopped, and maybe never will.

Chronic neck tension. Jaw pain. Low back flare ups. Fatigue that sleep does not fix.

More often than not, it is not JUST a muscle issue. It is a nervous system that has been on guard for too long.

Bodywork and massage therapy creates the safety the body needs to soften.

If your body has been carrying more than it should, we would be honored to help you set it down.

I’ll be honest, I used to practice bodywork much differently than I do now. That’s what years of experience and trial and error can create though. Change!

Typically we use a sensation scale to measure pressure. I usually let clients know that past a 6 or COMFORTABLE 7 is the maximum we want to go (depending on preference and session goal) because if you’re writhing away from me, what good will that do?

Sports massage therapists do NOT come for me in these comments alright. Everybody practices different. Because we are a trauma informed practice, we want our clients to get effective bodywork, but also return to us without fear that it will painful again.

I promise you, we don’t want to hurt you and if the pressure is too much, please speak up! Different areas can have different levels of tolerance. While most massage therapists can pick up on subtle cues, we aren’t mind readers. (That would be kinda cool though)

Sometimes, I have nothing to say. I thave to remind myself that I built this studio to practice massage therapy in a way that feels safe to ME. Because if I don’t feel comfortable with the practice, how will clients?

My goal this year is to grow this account and studio by any reasonable means for the sake of education, community, & authentic connection. As a small business, it’s a necessity that I fought against for far too long.

Content making is still new to me, but it’s helped us grow and expand a LOT. I’ve been able to hire the lovely .isabella at the studio, and ultimately would like to move to a position where we have a third therapist!

Years down the road I foresee even bigger things for Somnium, but right now, a moment of gratitude for all that’s happened thus far. We’d be nothing without you all.

Anyways, do you love massage and bodywork as much as we do? •

Just an updated refresher on our policies to add to our highlight section. Truly the luckiest to have the most understanding and supportive clients that respect our work and understand the reasoning behind our policies.

Disclaimer : I did mention this in the video but to reiterate- I understand the price barrier that exists for massage and bodywork & that’s not what I’m saying in the video.

My point is this. If you WANT a massage & and have reasonable means to do so, stop trying to talk yourself out of it.

It is a fallacy that has been long held in society that the only time things that feel good (massage) should be “earned” through things such as pain, trauma, stress.

YES massage therapy can and does help manage those factors.

AND ALSO you can get bodywork and massage just because you want to. Just because you feel like it. Without a justification.

It’s my aim to get clients to come in with little to no complaints because that means we have you at a good baseline. If your baseline is already neutral? Your bodywork is going to feel incredible!

You deserve it. No explanation needed.

Jokes jokes jokes. Sometimes our clients have their guards way up and it makes it almost impossible for them to feel like the work is …working?

This is your friendly reminder that pain ≠ gain
Massage and bodywork does NOT need to hurt for it to be effective.

Think about it, you’re trying to heal your pain with… more pain? At that point you’re conditioning yourself to have pain be the baseline for healing and ultimately will ultimately keep your nervous system on high alert.

Some discomfort can be beneficial, but if you’re writhing around on the table, holding your breath, or tensing up and guarding, it’s most likely way too deep.

A message from Val

I just want to start with a sincere thank you. Your continued support, consistency, and trust mean more to me than I can properly put into words. Truly. This work exists because of you.

A quick heads up that I have a surgery coming up in a few weeks. While I’ll be taking time to rest and recover, I encourage you to get on Bella's books while I’m gone and even when I return. She has done so much for Somnium Therapeutics and I truly don't know where I'd be without her help. I plan to return the first week of March, pending how I’m feeling.

March books are now fully open. As always, book early as the slots are filling fast.

I have the ability to open times that may not be viewable online, so booking in office is recommended for ease.

'Tis the season of love and care

Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day still has a few openings available. Whether you’re showing yourself some love or gifting care to someone else, this is a perfect day to do so. Gift cards are available online and make an easy, meaningful offering.

Community Outreach
I’m also happy to share that a portion of all sessions through February will be donated to Casa De Paz. Moving forward, Somnium Therapeutics will be donating to a local organization quarterly, with each organization chosen by you via Instagram voting. Care in, care out.

A couple friendly reminders
New clients receive $20 off their first session, and when you refer someone, you’ll get $20 off your next visit as well.

As the weather warms, it can be tempting to push appointments back or reschedule. Even when you’re feeling good (which is exactly what we want), consistency helps maintain regulation, ease, and resilience over time.

Thank you again for being here and allowing us to be part of your care.

With gratitude,
Val

A post slightly different than what you all normally see on this page. A lovely few b&w film shots I’ve taken of the studio recently to commemorate this moment in time for us.

I want to extend the warmest and deepest gratitude to all of our clients. In this previous and most unexpected loss of my grandpa, I have had trouble fully understanding my own grief. You all have shown such patience and kindness that I am constantly shocked at the support.

It is because of you all that Somnium Therapeutics exists and continues to operate. It’s a dream come true for me to run this practice that I believe adds considerable value to people’s lives and I hope to continue this journey for many more years.

To the clients that understand that we are human too, we have families, lives outside of these rooms - thank you.

I hope to provide you all with a space you feel safe enough in to be yourself, to release what’s following you or maybe sit with it awhile, and just be.

You may be surprised to know that people cry on the table weekly. I feel so honored to be present for these moments. Not to fix or engage, but that you trust me enough to let me see that side of your humanness and try to connect with you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here.

With all the love in the stars,
Val

We’d want you to feel welcome in our massage and bodywork space and do everything we can to make you feel accepted.

When I started my massage therapy practice, I thought I needed to succumb to the beige and sterile aesthetic that I saw at every studio and spa. While I deeply appreciate those spaces for what they are, I absolutely LOVE what we’ve created here at Somnium. All of our clients are unique and they love the personalization of our space.

And guess what?

That personalization transfers into our sessions with you. We use a variety of massage therapy modalities and techniques to assist you with your tension, aid relaxation, and get you back into feeling your body.

We love our clients as they are, and we hope you feel the same about us đź–¤

Who is this legend? Alright, all jokes aside we would never talk to any of our clients like this . But truth be told it’s not possible to fix you, especially not in an hour. Sure, you may experience temporary relief from your session and we always aim for a decrease in discomfort.

No massage therapist, bodyworker, or self-proclaimed healer can “fix” you and all your pain. Especially not in one session.

Pain comes from so many facets it’d be impossible to summarize all of them here. What we can say is …

Be patient.
Be consistent.
And do your work in between sessions.

I know the circles on your skin look ominous, but rest assured they are harmless!

The prints can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks and it’s all based on your body.

Having photos taken? Going on a tropical vacation? Attending a hot tub party? Maybe skip the cupping. Skin sensitivity in the area is normal and we always recommend addressing any tender areas with ice.

Cupping prints are more prone to burning so 1) stay out of the sun or lather up with SPF and 2) avoid direct contact with heat such as a water sauna, heating pad, etc.

Have you gotten cupping before? If so, how long did those prints last?
