Judi's House

Judi's House Judi's House is a community-based nonprofit bereavement center for children and families.

Founded by former NFL quarterback Brian Griese and his wife, Dr. Brook Griese, Judi’s House is a tribute to Brian’s mother, Judi, whom he lost to breast cancer when he was 12. As Brian grew up grieving this loss, he made a commitment to use his resources to positively impact grieving children. The Grieses discovered that there were no organizations devoted to this population and dedicated themselves to offering a safe, compassionate environment where children could grieve and begin the lifelong healing process.

The holidays can be joyful and heavy, sometimes all at once. This season, we’re inviting families to try a simple practice together:

🧘 Relax – Slow down. Breathe. Take a walk, a bath, or a quiet moment to release tension.
👂 Listen – Notice your thoughts. Be gentle with yourself. Listen to one another. Often the greatest gift is simply being heard.
🎲 Play – Make space for laughter and connection. Games, movement, music, or silliness all count. Joy matters, even in grief.

At Judi’s House, we believe taking breaks from grief isn’t avoidance, it’s care. May this season include moments of calm, connection, and light. 💙

If you want it shorter, more playful, or more reflective, I can tweak the tone.

The holidays can bring up many different emotions. They bring joy but can also stir up grief, stress, and other complex feelings. If this season feels heavy, you’re not alone.

Gentle self-care reminders this holiday season:
✨ Give yourself permission to feel whatever comes up
✨ Keep a daily routine that brings comfort or calm
✨ Honor your loved one in a way that feels meaningful to you
✨ Ask for support and connection
✨ Take breaks when you need them

At Judi’s House, we believe caring for yourself is not selfish, but necessary. Be kind to yourself this season. 💙

When children are exposed to frightening events, whether directly or through what they hear or see, it can be difficult to know how to help them make sense of it all. Supportive, age-appropriate resources can make a meaningful difference.

We’re sharing a few trusted tools from Sesame Workshop that may help caregivers and professionals support children through these moments:

💻 Free English & Spanish resources at:
• All Topics (www.sesame.org/resources)
• Community Violence (www.sesameworkshop.org/topics/violence/)
• Traumatic Experiences (sesameworkshop.org/topics/traumatic-experiences/)

We are grateful for everyone who continues to show up for children and families during times of loss and uncertainty. If these resources are helpful, please feel free to share them within your community.

When the Thi family lost their beloved husband and father, Chuong, their world turned upside down. Birthdays, holidays, and everyday routines suddenly felt overwhelming. Through Judi’s House, they found a safe space to share their pain, connect with others who understood, and begin to heal together.

“It’s a place no one wants to be, but during unthinkable times it’s an immeasurable gift and helps shape your future.” – Jaleen Thi

There is still time to make your tax-deductible gift and help families start the new year with healing and strength.

When the holidays arrive, creating space to remember, reflect, and imagine can be especially meaningful for youth and families navigating grief. This creative activity invites connection, storytelling, and gentle expression during a tender season.

📘 Collage Memory Book
Staple blank pages together to create a booklet. Each family member makes their own so they can fill the pages with drawings, words, or collage materials:
• Cover: Title "My Special Person"
• Page 1: What the last holiday with your special person looked like
• Page 2: What you imagine this holiday to look like now
• Page 3: "Gifts" your special person gave you (traits, talents, interests, etc.)
• Page 4: Hopes for the future

Set aside a special time to share your booklets as a family, honoring memories while gently looking ahead. It’s a thoughtful way to acknowledge grief, preserve connection, and support one another through the season.

When the weather turns cold, having cozy indoor coping skills can make a big difference—especially for youth and families navigating grief. This hands-on activity offers a soothing, creative way to practice self-care and warmth all season long.

✨ Bath Snowballs & Shapes – How it works:
Mix Epsom salt, a little water, your favorite food coloring, and calming essential oils. Shape the mixture into snowballs or press it into fun molds, then let it dry. Once it’s ready, drop your creation into a warm bath and enjoy a moment of relaxation and comfort.

It’s a simple, sensory way to slow down, breathe, and care for yourself during colder days.
