Looking for a therapist isn't like booking an appointment. It's an interview process, and you're the one doing the hiring.
Many people don't realize they can (and should) ask questions before committing to a therapist. You're allowed to make sure this person is the right fit for what you need.
Here are some questions that can help you figure that out:
✔️ Can you explain your approach without therapy jargon?
✔️ What does progress look like when working with you?
✔️ Do you give tools or homework between sessions?
✔️ What is your experience dealing with situations similar to mine?
✔️ How do you work with my identities? (gender, race, sexuality, religion, beliefs)
You don't have to ask all of these, but even one or two can give you a sense of whether this therapist feels like the right match.
