Bimbo Bakeries Teamsters Local 455 Sales and Transportation members ratified a new 4.5-year agreement Sunday by a vote of 158-58 after an intense three-week bargaining process. "This committee stayed focused and unified," said Business Agent Jason Abbott. " They stood strong with the company and fought for everything they wanted." What did they want? The new agreement, among dozens of improvements, provides route protections for drivers, limiting the company to two large-format route changes within a six-month period; any more than two and the contract forces a complete rebid. The deal includes a three-day (13.3 hours per day) workweek determined by bid. It locks in health and welfare with no increases over the term of the agreement; and allows new hires to select from any health and welfare plan at no additional cost. Every member of the 276-person receives a base pay increase; transportation members will receive 9-12 percent increases in the first year and members receive ratification bonuses of $3,000-5,000. Pension contributions also increase 55 cents. Said Abbott: "We just keep raising our own bar when we're at the table."
