Dr. Spero’s Retirement Announcement

To CMC’s Families, I became a pediatrician because of my pediatrician. Dr. Mary Margaret McLeod of Sanford, North Carolina, introduced me to medicine, and when I completed my first pediatric rotation in medical school, I knew I had found my way. After residency, I was considering a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases, but when Jules Amer and Jay Markson asked me if I was interested in joining Children’s Medical Center 31 years ago, I knew the opportunity was too good to pass up....

The current government shutdown and reduction of SNAP benefits has a big effect on the kids of Colorado. In Denver alone, 30,000 children rely on SNAP benefits to eat. This directly affects our patient population, and so CMC will be implementing a pop-up food bank in our lobby. Any of our patients and/or their families will be welcome to take food from the donation box when they are in the office....

Dr. Lauren shares some topics that have come up many times in her household since welcoming her daughter.

As a first time mom who also happens to be a pediatrician, it’s been so fun for me to have conversations with my families who have babies of a similar age to mine! I’ve noticed that many of the questions that come up in exam rooms are similar to the things my husband has asked

2025 has been a very difficult year to navigate for the Covid vaccine. CMC has received Covid vaccine for all ages from Moderna. This will be the only product we will carry for the 2025-2026 season. We have ordered very conservatively as this is a very expensive vaccine that has a short shelf life, we know it is late in the season and many patients may have already found the vaccine at alternate suppliers and do not have a good idea of what current demand will be. ...

Here is what you need to know: RSV monoclonal antibody treatment is highly effective in preventing RSV-associated hospitalization in infants. Monoclonal antibodies are not vaccines. They do not activate the immune system. Rather, the antibodies themselves protect against disease. A baby is protected with RSV antibody if a mother receives RSV vaccine during pregnancy, at least 2 weeks prior to delivery....
