Have you noticed that your toddler is suddenly nursing more than before?

[Image Description] Photo of a toddler smiling. Text next to the photo reads, "Even a toddler who doesn't nurse often anymore will breastfeed with increased frequency during periods of sickness or stress. Got a cold? Moving to a new home? Starting a new daycare? Expect more nursing." The La Leche League USA logo is below the text.

As your child grows, offering a variety of foods helps them get the vitamins and minerals they need to thrive. You don’t have to do it perfectly every day. Small steps add up to big nutritional wins! 🙌

Beets are more than a vibrantly colored winter vegetable. They're a nutrient powerhouse! Beets are a great source of folate for a healthy pregnancy, fiber for good digestion, and iron to help fight tiredness. They even help support a healthy heart and blood pressure. 🫀

Enjoy them roasted until sweet and tender, blended into a smoothie, or chopped fresh onto a salad. Remember, you can use your WIC benefits for fresh or canned beets! 🥫

If you’re looking for a comforting and warm recipe, here’s one that highlights root vegetables like beets: https://choosehomemade.org/recipes/root-veggie-stew-with-dumplings/

A recent article claimed that formula is the “secret to marriage equality.” That framing misses the point.

Breastfeeding is biological. Inequality is built into our systems. Feeding at the breast does not create imbalance - lack of support does.

Equality in a partnership is about how the work is shared, not about who feeds the baby.

It’s about:
• Who takes parental leave
• Who handles night wakings beyond feeding
• Who cooks, cleans, and schedules appointments
• Who carries the invisible mental load

Breastfeeding families do not need to water down breastfeeding to find balance. They need real support. The real conversation should include:
• Paid parental leave
• Strong workplace protections
• Access to lactation support
• Postpartum mental health care
• Protection from social isolation

When families have support, they find their own rhythm.

Formula is an important option. Every family deserves informed choice. But saying breastfeeding blocks equality shifts responsibility away from policy and onto mothers.

Equality won’t come from replacing breastmilk. It will come from strengthening the systems that support families.
