Sometimes we don’t know what to say to someone who’s grieving. Here’s an amazing suggestion that can help people move through sadness and not feel alone, even if it elicits tears. Remember, you are not “reminding them of their sadness” if you bring up their loss - they remember it all the time. It makes it even harder to grieve if they feel alone in their sadness. When we are willing to hold space for them, they feel a bit of relief in Having someone who is willing to be with them in the darkness of grief. Reposted from the amazing

Repost .christina_ “I was 22 years old the first time I lost a loved one to su***de.

He was my godfather and without a doubt my favorite human being.

It took me losing a family member to finally understand that the things I was taught about su***de were untrue.

We unfortunately still live in a society where su***de is labeled as “selfish” or “weak.”

In honor of , let’s commit to finally changing the conversation around su***de.

Let’s humanize those who struggle with it.

Let’s offer support over judgement.

Let’s dedicate time to learn and educate ourselves about su***de.

I truly believe su***de is preventable but first we have to shift the way we think and talk about it.

Let today be the day for each of us to do a little more to end the shame and stigma associated with su***de. 💚”

Repost “ Since June 2020, the Support Team Assisted Response (STAR) has deployed medical and behavioral health clinicians to respond to over 2,200 assessed low risk.

In over the year and half of the program's existance, STAR teams have never had to call for police back-up due to a safety issue, according to their January report. It's been so successful that they are adding 5 times the staff and vehicles. The teams always have access to backup should situations turn for the worse. 🙌”

“When someone discloses their mental health struggles we are often quick to respond with advice or feedback.

And while this advice may come from a place of love or concern, it can often leave the person feeling dismissed, invalidated or harmed.

Instead of jumping the gun and offering unsolicited advice, I encourage all of us to pause and think of the words we want to offer to the person in our life who is struggling.

Because the truth of the matter is, often times the only words needed to be said are “How can I support you.”

“Growing up, Angela Tucker felt like a racial impostor. She may have looked Black, but she didn’t feel that way.

Tucker, 36, is an adoptee raised by White parents in a city that was 88 percent White when she was growing up. It left her disconnected from music such as jazz and blues music, Black art forms she didn’t discover her passion for until adulthood. She covered her natural hair with wigs and weaves, uncomfortable with how her curly strands appeared in predominantly White environments.

Transracial adoptees, people raised by adoptive parents of a different race or ethnicity, are experiencing their own racial reckoning as the nation confronts its historical scars.

Most of these adoptions involve White families and children of color who, now as adults, are reflecting on the racism they experienced that their parents couldn’t see and rarely talked about. Classmates’ racist comments about their hair and eyes were dismissed as harmless curiosity. America’s racial dynamics were explained in the language of “colorblind” idealism.”

Reposted “The anxiety of suspecting a friend is upset with us is common, thanks in part to modern communication and how our brains work.

The coronavirus pandemic — when friends were kept apart for so long and some friendships withered away — seems to have exacerbated the issue.

The good news is not only is this feeling incredibly common, experts say, but it’s normal and can be fleeting. By getting to the root of why these fears arise, we can learn how to combat worries of rejection and confidently address our concerns with our friends.”

Reposted Research shows the pandemic has increased Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs, which is why it’s critical we consider trauma-informed approaches in everything we do.

The authorization of the vaccine for kids ages 5-11 is an important step forward as we navigate this pandemic, but there is so much more we can do for our children.

Thankfully, CA is leading the nation by investing in infrastructure to address ACEs, treat toxic stress and help our society heal: a once-in-a-generation opportunity.
