We offer food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. We strive to be a community-driven organization, meaning that our goal is to have all programs led and implemented by members of our community or others from similar neighborhoods. We are successful when the youth, families, and communities we work with are empowered to feed, nourish and strengthen themselves and each other.

Join us in warmly welcoming Nina Marti, The GrowHaus' new Director of Community Programs and Engagement! Nina is a community-driven nonprofit leader passionate about building inclusive programs that create access, opportunity, and belonging. As Director of Community Programs and Engagement at The GrowHaus, she leads initiatives that strengthen neighborhood partnerships, support community members, and expand pathways to food justice and access. Nina was born and raised just outside of Washington, DC, and has been a Denver resident since 2022. Her family hails from El Salvador and Cuba. With a background spanning arts education, outdoor education, and equity-focused workforce programs, Nina brings a people-centered approach to everything she does. Prior to joining The GrowHaus, she served as a Program Director at Hispanic Access Foundation, where she guided one of the organization’s flagship programs connecting emerging BIPOC professionals to career pathways in environmental and public lands fields. Earlier in her career, she worked with organizations like the National Park Trust to create outdoor learning opportunities for students across the country. When she’s not working, you can find her on stage in local theaters, at the climbing gym, or camping and hiking with her two dogs. Welcome to the team!!

Statewide data shows that Black and Latino households are about twice as likely to experience food insecurity. Today, we revisit Martin Luther King Jr.'s powerful perspective on equitable food access and resource distribution. He asked, "Why should there be hunger and deprivation in any land, in any city, at any table, when man has the resources and the scientific know-how to provide all mankind with the basic necessities of life?"
At The GrowHaus, we know there is more than enough food to go around, but inequitable distribution systems are leaving 1 in 8 Coloradans food insecure and disproportionately impacting communities of color. The GrowHaus addresses this gap in practical, sustainable ways, with food access and education programs shaped and led by neighbors whose lived experience and deep community ties ensure we direct resources where they are most needed.

For the 107,000 Denver neighbors experiencing food insecurity, fresh fruits and vegetables are often the first things left behind at the grocery store. Amidst this immense challenge, The GrowHaus is committed to ensuring every table has food that nourishes, heals, and connects, and distributes seasonal produce to thousands of neighbors each month through our no-cost Food Access program. The GrowHaus stewards nutrition guidelines, prioritizing fresh produce, healthy fats, whole grains, and unprocessed goods, and sources food from local farms, food rescue organizations, and food hubs to ensure families experiencing food insecurity have access to high-quality produce grown right here in Colorado!

To address the root causes of food insecurity and provide wealth-building opportunities, The GrowHaus hires and invests in the career pathways of community members like Tania. In her role as a Promotora, Tania helps lead our Community Wellness and Education programming. Tania has become a beloved teacher for our neighbors, drawing on her deep community roots to share knowledge and resources with compassion and understanding.
Throughout her nearly three years at The GrowHaus, Tania has prioritized learning new skills, personal growth, and leadership development. She has obtained professional certifications, including one in SNAP Enrollment Assistance, equipping her to guide neighbors through overcoming barriers like confusion, paperwork, and stigma and take full advantage of the benefits available to them. It is an honor to be a part of the journey for emerging community leaders like Tania, who we are sure will shape the future!

Our small but mighty Community Wellness Education and Engagement team is vital to connecting our mission to the daily lives of our neighbors. Our Promotoras (Community Health Specialists) share knowledge about wellness, our programs, and government support services like SNAP, while weaving trust, compassion, and understanding into every interaction.
When they are not out in neighborhoods connecting with the community, you may find our Promotoras developing new skills by attending trainings, engaging with other departments, testing recipes, or polishing up the plan for their next wellness class.

2025 reaffirmed the power of our community-led model. Amid a challenging year for food justice, we are reflecting on 5 of our favorite wins and moments of joy from this year, including (1) Tania’s milestone in community leadership, (2) a Day of Action with our Tambien members, (3) impactful summer learning with children at Abejitas, (4) The GrowHaus Harvest Nights, and (5) getting to meet and support new neighbors through our Temporary Emergency Food Assistance program.

Throughout the year, we continued providing fresh food to our friends at Denver Public Library and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, expanded our Food is Medicine program with Tepeyac Community Health Center, and welcomed new partnerships with Thriving Families and GES Coalition. We are now reaching 7,000 people every month via 25 food access sites!
You showed up for The GrowHaus in 2025, and next year, we’ll need you by our side so we can bring our community-led food justice model to more communities across the Front Range. Donate at the link in our bio to set us up to scale in 2026!
