We offer food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. We strive to be a community-driven organization, meaning that our goal is to have all programs led and implemented by members of our community or others from similar neighborhoods. Nina Marti, Director of Community Programs and Engagement, leads initiatives that strengthen neighborhood partnerships, support community members, and expand pathways to food justice and access.
A recent addition to The GrowHaus team, Nina brings extensive experience in program management from other women-led organizations, and says, "What I have appreciated most about my experience working with women-led organizations is having role models who I can see myself in, who achieve such incredible accomplishments and create meaningful impact. It has enabled me to envision myself as a leader and capable of creating positive change."
Nina adds, "'feminine' traits - such as compassion, generosity, and humility - are not typically associated with leaders and are often undervalued." These traits are precisely what make The GrowHaus unique!

Through 28 access sites with partners such as Denver Public Library and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, The GrowHaus is bringing fresh, culturally-relevant food to more than 7,000 neighbors across Denver each month. One culturally-relevant vegetable our neighbors recently took home is the beautiful Chayote!
Chayote has a long culinary history dating back to indigenous Mesoamerica. Originating in the regions we know today as southern Mexico and Central America, the chayote spread through the Caribbean, South America, and other parts of the world, integrating into countless culinary traditions.

Reintroducing ingredients such as chayote is part of reclaiming our culinary memory. These foods have supported indigenous and Latin American communities for generations, and bringing them back to our kitchens reconnects us with knowledge, lands, and flavors that have always been part of our culture.

Nina has lived in the community and worked at The GrowHaus for the past nine years! Through mentorship and robust professional development training, Nina was recently promoted to Senior Director of Development, Communications, and Partnerships, having grown from her first role at The GrowHaus as Development Coordinator. To Nina, working at a women-led organization means “we fiercely pursue our goals. We don't back down from a challenge; we come together and meticulously chart our path forward.”
Nina is passionate about the growth of our team, and trains Program Managers on budget management and fundraising/business development strategies. She also manages key partnerships, multi-million dollar grant awards, and program evaluation. By weaving together grants, sponsorships, individual contributions, earned revenue, and more, Nina creates long-term financial sustainability by ensuring no program at The GrowHaus is reliant on a single funder.

Last week, our team attended a powerful event hosted by our partners at the GES Coalition that covered the comprehensive history of The GrowHaus' home communities of Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea. This immersive experience told the story of how these three North Denver neighborhoods have been shaped by historic disinvestment, redlining, labor struggles, industrial zoning, and highway expansion, and transformed by neighbors organizing for racial, environmental, and economic justice for more than a century.
This was a special opportunity for The GrowHaus team to connect with our neighbors and community partners who are also invested in the future of this neighborhood. By addressing attendees as the "future ancestors of GES", event leaders explicitly connected our actions today to the quality of life of the next generations of GES neighbors, and helped us envision a future where community members have the tools, education, and infrastructure to live well.

Brenna, The GrowHaus’ Community Wellness Education and Engagement Manager, leads year-round programs that foster community health, wealth, and wellbeing for neighbors of all ages.

Brenna is deeply connected to our neighbors, bridging The GrowHaus’ mission to their daily lives during home visits and community workshops. Since being promoted from Manager of Youth Programs to overseeing all Community Wellness and Education programs, Brenna has developed evidence-based program offerings, including diabetes nutrition and budget-friendly recipes, bolstered our SNAP enrollment support, and continued to foster enthusiastic leadership amongst our community’s youth.

Brenna says, "Working at a women-led organization, I have always felt championed by my team, and I believe that we have a really beautiful culture of celebrating each other in our work context and also recognizing each other's personal goals, needs, and responsibilities."
