“Life is so much more beautiful than a number on a scale.” –Tess Munster⁣

We all have tough days with those critical thoughts...and many times it’s related to our bodies and appearance. Sometimes there are more of those days than not. ⁣

Instead of focusing solely on appearance and weight, gratitude for what your body can do and the places it can take you can often be more achievable. ⁣

This photo is from a ski trip in the backcountry of Colorado. Life really can be beautiful when that inner critic is replaced with other things to think about. Trips like this one remind me of that. I’m so incredibly grateful for a healthy body that gets me to such beautiful places! 🙏 ❄️⁣

One of the things I love about yoga is that sometimes your teacher shares a concept or quote that you really need to hear that day.⁣

During a class last week, I was reminded that despite our best efforts, painful things happen that are out of our control. An interaction with a loved one, an experience in the workplace or school, the news, or even our own thoughts, can lead to all kinds of emotions and trigger behaviors that we later regret. ⁣

When faced with something difficult and I start to feel frustrated or helpless, this quote reminds me of what we do have power over....our reactions. And before we react, there is a space, one where you can take a deep breath, check in with yourself, and then chose what to do from there. I know taking space sounds way easier than it actually is, especially when faced with things like hurtful comments from a loved one, discrimination, or the very real symptoms of trauma. But taking a breath and checking in is an important first step - one in which we can choose a healthier behavior or kinder words, both to ourselves and those around us. ⁣

I’m grateful I went to yoga that day. Turns out my yoga teacher’s gentle reminder was exactly what I needed! And maybe something you need too 💜 ⁣

Before I start thinking about intentions for the upcoming year, I try and reflect on how fortunate I am and what I’m grateful for. (I try to do that every day, but sometimes it’s hard!). ⁣

There are so many things I’m grateful for - amazing friends and family who are there always, my body that allows me to ride bikes and snowboards, books and ideas, adventures in the woods, my career as a therapist, nature, the privilege to travel, and especially these two. 💕🐾🏔⁣

Before we all become focused on implementing our resolutions, what are the things you’re grateful for? I’d love to hear!⁣

“Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations” ~ Melchor Lim⁣

One of our end of the year traditions is to look back at the year’s photos. This particular photos is one is of my favorite bike trails up in British Columbia. The climb up is brutal (at least for me!) But with the encouragement of my friends, I made it. it was one of the most beautiful views and the best singletrack descent down! ⁣

Whether it’s depression, an eating disorder, trauma, or anything else you might be struggling with, the journey towards something better is really hard. You can’t see the top, have no idea where you’re even going, and frankly it feels easier to turn around.⁣

That’s how my recovery was at least. Even though it was hard, I trusted those around me telling me there was something better out there. On this particular trail, I was so mad and definitely almost turned around! But my friend was right, it was worth it when we got to the top. ⁣

So when it gets hard and you can’t even begin to imagine what is on the other side, keep going. Lean on the people who care about you, and those you trust. You’ll end up in beautiful places you never even knew existed. 💕🏔 ⁣

What can I do to encourage positive body image in my child?

What can I do to encourage positive body image in my child?

While sitting with my clients and their families, I’ve seen time and time again the pain and havoc an eating disorder can cause. In these moments, I’m reminded of the importance of prevention. Although eating disorders and disordered eating can be triggered by lots of different things, negative ...
