Honor your body by finding ways to reduce stress and move each day. Take a moment to tune in to what your body needs, whether that's a quick walk, a guided meditation or breathing exercise, a workout at the gym, or connection with your support system.

Help 8 young Native filmmakers share their stories!

303 Indigenous Productions is an all-Native youth digital storytelling group born out of the Denver Indian Family Resource Center's Wakanyeja youth program. These young people—many with lived experience in the foster care system—created a powerful film called "Concrete Warriors" that carries a message they want every urban Native youth to hear: culture, community, and connection is medicine.
Now they've been invited to present their film at the 2026 National Indian Child Welfare Association Conference in Oklahoma City, where child welfare professionals from across the country will learn directly from the young people they serve.
Your donation will cover travel, lodging, meals, and conference registration for eight youth presenters and their chaperones. Every dollar helps these young leaders build confidence, develop professional skills, and amplify their voices on a national platform.
This isn't just a trip—it's an investment in the next generation of Native storytellers and advocates.
Our Goal: $12,000
Help us meet our deadline of March 15 to finalize travel. Share this campaign, make a gift, and help 303 Indigenous Productions bring Concrete Warriors to NICWA. To donate directly visit: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-303-indigenous-productions-get-to-the-NICWA-conference

Our employee spotlight subject this month is Rhyia Joy, a peer navigator with DIHFS.
"Tous, Hii3eti'toh'uusiini' (Hello, Good Afternoon in Arapaho)
Nenee'eesih'inoo Nee'eesiii'oo Biixonoo (My name is Growing Plume; My English name is Rhyia Joy.)
I come from the Northern Arapaho, Eastern Shoshone and Flathead people from the Wind River Indian Reservation in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. I have worked at Denver Indian Health and Family Services in the Behavioral Health department as a Peer Navigator for a year and a half. Peer support work is to amplify resilience, extend compassion, and support our relatives in every aspect of life. It is an Implementing principle of mutual understanding and shared experience, moving the focus from hopelessness to hopeful potential. I have volunteered and participated in the Denver Native community programing since I was very young. I am grateful to now work for an organization that serves a community that has contributed to my successes. As a Peer Navigator at DIHFS, I have been able to pursue certifications such as a Colorado Peer and Family Specialist and Notary Public. I stand as our Cultural Committee Chair within our organization to encourage DIHFS upmost cultural humility. My goal is to be a part of spaces systematically not build for our community and be a translator to our people. I hope to motivate the next generation to pursue clinical work and other avenues as representation is important. I am currently pursuing my BAS in Tribal Leadership at Central Wyoming College. I am the Co-founder and Director of Indigenous Corporation 5280, a cultural awareness organization. I am a powwow dancer and enjoy crafting, sewing, beading, and attending powwows. I have one dog named Willis and two cats named Stoodis and Skoden (aka Skodie) . I am an auntie, sister, daughter, & friend. I am always willing to go above and beyond for our community, staff, and patients.
Ho'hou, wooweewoo, Thank you."

February is National Cancer Prevention Month. Dr. Zhang, a researcher and cancer survivor says "Cancer is just what happens when some random cells in our body have gone wild, and our immune system was unable to detect and kill them. However, it is important that we find these bad cells early to help us live on after a cancer diagnosis." (www.cancer.org)
Schedule your yearly exam and ask your doctor about recommended screenings for your age and risk factors.

Our Story

We are Denver's only Urban Indian Health clinic providing culturally-competent health services; including medical, dental, behavioral, and support.

We provide health services to American Indian families and individuals; DIHFS is also a Medicaid enrollment site and a Connect For Health Colorado (C4HCO) enrollment site.

Our Mission is to provide culturally appropriate services that promote health and quality of life for American Indian families and individuals in the Metropolitan Denver area. Denver was one of the original sites for relocation of Native people from their home reservations. Today, Denver continues to be a hub for American Indian people, with an estimated population of 40,000.

Denver Indian Health and Family Services was created as the result of a needs assessment conducted by the Denver Native Americans United. The doors were closed, however, in 1991 because of the large number of uninsured patients and because of the inability to charge American Indian patients.
