In our Let’s Talk: School and Recovery series, Bryn Miller explains how adolescents can develop a sense of self beyond their eating disorder:

Question: How does being at EDCare support teens in building a sense of self beyond their eating disorder?
Answer: As adolescents move through eating disorder recovery, we focus heavily on identity development. Using ACT, teens explore their values and begin to understand who they are outside of the eating disorder. This supports not just healing, but building a rich and meaningful life, which is an essential part of adolescent development.

We loved seeing several of our EDCare dietitians at the Nebraska Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (NAND) Conference. It was a great opportunity for continued education, collaboration, and connection with colleagues across the field.

A big thank you to everyone who joined our Director of Nutrition Services, Linda Steinhardt, MS, RD, CSSD, CEDS for her presentation, “When Less Isn’t More: How Under-Fueling Undermines Health and Performance in Athletes.” We’re grateful to be part of these important conversations.

Trying to be “good” with food can seem harmless, but it can quietly turn into rigid rules, guilt, and disconnection from your body. Over time, this mindset can contribute to disordered eating behaviors that are often overlooked.

Support means moving toward flexibility, not perfection. If you’re struggling, you’re not alone and help is available.

Diet talk is everywhere, but its impact is deeper than it seems. Here’s why everyday comments about weight and food matter more than we think.

Noah Kahan shares his struggle with body dysmorphia and it reminds us that body image challenges don’t discriminate. Even with success and support, the internal experience can still feel isolating and overwhelming.

Talking openly about these struggles helps others feel less alone and encourages connection to support.

Ahead of his new Netflix documentary, 'Out of Body,' Noah Kahan opened up about having body dysmorphia and said it's something he's been struggling with for a long time.

Family support is a cornerstone of adolescent recovery. In our Let’s Talk: School and Recovery series, Bryn Miller explains:

Question: In what ways are families involved throughout the treatment process?
Answer: We keep families closely involved, especially in our adolescent program. Each week includes family therapy, dietitian and psychiatric provider sessions, plus a friends and family support group. Caregivers also join weekly on-site meals to practice support skills, building confidence and connection throughout recovery.

This discussion will explore the complex overlap between eating disorders and personality disorders, and how this impacts assessment, treatment, and recovery. Earth Day invites us to reconnect with ourselves and the world around us. Slowing down and noticing the little details, like the feel of the sun, the rustle of leaves, or the rhythm of your own breath, can remind us that recovery and well-being grow in the quiet, mindful moments. Recovery from an eating disorder doesn’t end when behaviors change. Many people are surprised by how long it takes to rebuild their relationship with food, body image, and themselves. Healing is ongoing, and it’s okay if it takes time.

Support, patience, and compassion make a difference. If you’re struggling, you don’t have to do it alone.

Eating disorder recovery isn’t linear. An author talks about her experience navigating this (often) long and complicated process.
