Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you build a life rooted in meaning, not avoidance.

Its 6 principles, acceptance, mindfulness, values, defusion, self-as-context, and committed action, guide you toward living authentically and flexibly.

ACT reminds us that recovery isn’t about eliminating discomfort; it’s about making space for what matters most.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most researched and effective therapeutic approaches used in eating disorder treatment. It helps you identify unhelpful thought patterns and replace them with more balanced, compassionate ones. Over time, this process empowers you to respond differently to triggers, improve body image, and develop lasting coping skills.

CBT isn’t about ignoring emotions or “thinking positively”, it’s about learning to challenge beliefs that no longer serve you and creating space for healing and growth.

At EDCare, CBT is a cornerstone of our evidence-based treatment, helping clients build self-awareness, resilience, and confidence, one thought at a time. Explore our approach to recovery: https://eatingdisorder.care/treatment-modalities/

Behind every statistic is a story and every story matters.

Eating disorders affect millions, yet research and access to care often overlook many communities. Studies show that athletes face especially high rates of disordered eating, while people of color remain underrepresented in research and underserved in treatment. Additionally, OSFED (Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder) is one of the most common, yet least recognized, eating disorders.

Awareness leads to change. By understanding the full picture, we can break stigma, advocate for equity, and ensure that everyone has access to compassionate care.

Gratitude is more than a feeling, it’s a practice that gently reshapes how we see ourselves and the world around us. In recovery, cultivating gratitude can shift focus from what’s missing to what’s possible.

This month’s mantra reminds us that gratitude doesn’t erase hardship, it helps us hold both pain and joy at once. Each moment of thankfulness becomes an anchor, grounding you in self-compassion and hope.

At EDCare, we help you nurture practices that build emotional balance, healing, and connection. Practice gratitude with us: www.eatingdisorder.care

As a parent discovering your child is facing an eating disorder, it’s natural to ask “Did I do something wrong?” The truth is: you are not the cause. Eating disorders emerge from a complex mix of genetics, brain chemistry, temperament and a culture saturated in body-image pressures.

Blaming yourself or being blamed by others delays help and adds shame. When parents feel guilty or silenced, treatments may be postponed, and we know that early intervention improves outcomes.

Instead of guilt, your role is powerful: you provide support, help your child connect with skilled professionals, and show up with patience and presence. You don’t need to have all the answers; you need to be willing to learn, listen and love. If you’re wondering what to do next, reach out for a confidential assessment at EDCare and remember: there is hope.

After nearly 20 years of treating young people with eating disorders, I want every parent to know this.

Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) goes far beyond picky eating. It can involve strong sensory sensitivities, fear of choking, or little interest in eating at all. While it doesn’t stem from body-image concerns, ARFID can still cause malnutrition, anxiety, and social isolation.

According to Scientific American, awareness and diagnosis of are increasing, especially among children and teens. Experts say this rise reflects a deeper understanding of how eating challenges can develop and the need for earlier intervention.

Treatment often involves a combination of therapy, nutrition support, and gradual exposure to feared or avoided foods. With specialized care, many people see meaningful improvements in both health and quality of life.

If eating feels overwhelming, or if you notice growing anxiety around food, please know you’re not alone and help is available. Reaching out to a professional, like EDCare, who understands ARFID can be the first step toward healing.

Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder, or ARFID, can cause malnutrition and weight loss in children and adults even when body image is not a factor

Children’s Day offers an important opportunity to reflect on adolescent health, including the rising prevalence of eating disorders. Studies indicate that approximately 20% of teens experience disordered eating behaviors, emphasizing the need for early recognition and intervention.

EDCare’s adolescent programs offer structured, evidence-based treatment for teens ages 13–17. Our programs focus on the whole adolescent, supporting physical health, emotional growth, and social development. Families are integrated into care, and educational support ensures teens don’t fall behind academically.

Through individualized therapy, nutrition counseling, and skill-building, our team helps adolescents develop balanced relationships with food, their bodies, and themselves. Children’s Day is a chance to raise awareness, foster understanding, and ensure every teen has access to safe, compassionate care. https://eatingdisorder.care/programs/adolescent-partial-hospitalization-program/

World Kindness Day reminds us that kindness begins with ourselves. For anyone navigating an eating disorder, harsh self-criticism can make recovery harder. Practicing self-compassion, acknowledging your efforts, forgiving setbacks, and celebrating small wins is essential to healing.

Recovery isn’t linear. Some days will feel harder than others, but treating yourself with patience and understanding helps strengthen resilience and encourages long-term growth.

At EDCare, we support teens and adults in learning self-kindness as part of a holistic approach to recovery. Whether it’s through therapy, nutrition support, or family engagement, cultivating compassion for yourself can be transformative.

Take a moment this to honor your courage, progress, and commitment to healing.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) teaches balance, the space where logic and emotion meet to guide you toward your “Wise Mind.”

In eating disorder recovery, it’s easy to swing between emotional overwhelm and rigid thinking. DBT helps you notice those extremes and respond with mindfulness, compassion, and skill. By strengthening emotional regulation and distress tolerance, DBT empowers you to manage urges, communicate needs, and move through life with more balance.

At EDCare, DBT tools are used daily to help clients find calm in chaos and connect with their inner wisdom. Learn how DBT supports recovery: https://eatingdisorder.care/treatment-modalities/
