Check out Brad's new weekly class: Yoga for Seniors. This class begins this week on Wednesday, March 6th, 11:00am-12:15pm.

Yoga for Seniors is an interactive Seniors class that emphasizes both flexibility and strength, focusing on overall well-being.

The benefits of yoga (i.e. enhanced flexibility, range of motion, building and maintaining strength, concentration, balance, etc.) are attainable with a focused, safe practice in a supportive environment. Yoga is a tool for personal improvement and self-discovery, personalized to each individual’s journey.

Emphasis will be on both supported and non-supported poses to increase the optimal function of the neck, shoulders, spine, and legs.

Attendees should be able to get up and down from the floor.
This is a hybrid class: it is available both in-studio and online via live-stream.

Sara's Level 1 class will focus on the foundation and welcomes brand new beginners and those new to the Iyengar method of yoga. Students will practice fundamental asanas and learn the essential actions within standing poses, seated poses, twists, forward extensions, backward extensions, and beginner inversions.

In addition to the common physical benefits, including increased muscle strength, flexibility, improved balance, pain relief, increased energy, and better sleep, students often notice they feel more relaxed, content in life, have better focus, and experience a greater sense of overall well-being, following the yoga classes.

This is a hybrid class: it is available both in-person and online via live-stream.

Supta Virasana (reclining hero's pose) is a restorative pose. Restorative poses can invite relaxation and recuperation to the body (muscles, organs, nervous system), and mind.

Tight legs and ankles from hiking, biking, running, or prolonged standing can lengthen and re-balance in this pose. The chest and abdomen can spread and relax, which supports deeper breathing, healthy digestion, and menstrual cramp relief.

What Sara has to say about this pose:
“While practicing Supta Virasana, I enjoy the openness I feel in my chest and abdomen. I also appreciate the position of the legs and feet: I quite like the unique pressure and stretch of the legs - it's like giving the muscles a hug.”

Tips for practice:
If you experience sensitive knees or back, take higher support.
Include essential actions: press your shins, lengthen your lower back, lift your chest, and breathe.

Ardha Uttanasana (Half Forward Fold) is a foundational pose that lengthens and strengthens the hamstrings, increases hip flexibility, extends the spine, strengthens the core, and prepares the body for other forward bending poses.

Words from Christine:
"I find connecting with the breath in this pose calming and invigorating."
