Our Advocacy Team is in D.C.! 🏛️

This week, members of our advocacy team are in Washington, D.C., attending the National Low Income Housing Coalition Annual Housing Policy Forum. This vital gathering brings together thought leaders, policy experts, tenant advocates, and affordable housing practitioners who are committed to ending the housing and homelessness crisis in America.

In addition to learning from incredible experts from around the country, our team and partners are meeting with congressional offices to advocate for policies that support low-income renters and expand access to safe, affordable housing.

Housing is a human right, and we’re here to make sure that message is heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill! 💙💚🏡 Senator Michael Bennet Congresswoman Diana DeGette Rep. Jason Crow U.S. Rep Brittany Pettersen

This weekend we were proud to join our partners at Archway Communities and Enterprise Community Partners in meeting with Senator Michael Bennet to discuss the critical need to preserve and rehabilitate low-income housing. Protecting and investing in existing affordable homes helps prevent displacement and keeps more Coloradans from experiencing homelessness.

The Gap Report, shared by the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless and published today by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, shows that Colorado faces a shortage of more than 136,000 affordable and available rental homes for people with extremely low incomes, making our state the 7th least affordable in the nation. With only 27 affordable units for every 100 households that need them, and ongoing attacks on housing resources and programs from the federal government under the Trump Administration, the need for measures that center those with the lowest incomes is more urgent than ever.

Read the new Gap Report to understand the scale of the crisis and why stronger investments in deeply affordable housing are urgently needed.https://nlihc.org/gap

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless and the Denver Housing Authority have announced a new partnership to develop up to 135 units of income-restricted supportive housing for families at 4745 Federal Blvd in Denver’s Berkeley/Sunnyside neighborhoods.

This development represents an important step toward addressing the region’s growing need for affordable housing for families.

“There are 15,328 children and youth experiencing homelessness in the Denver Metro area this year,” said Britta Fisher, CEO of the Coalition. “We know that the effects of housing instability on children are profound, including long-term impacts on educational attainment, health, and economic opportunities. By creating a community-focused development with large units, playground areas, a community space, extensive outdoor areas, and other family-centered amenities, the Coalition and DHA are working to make Denver affordable for the children who need it most.”
