Happy ! This month we celebrate Black history and Black joy while also deepening our collective understanding of the harm and oppression that has shaped the experience of Black Americans throughout history–particularly when it comes to housing and healthcare.

Notwithstanding the resilience of Black communities, racist housing policies and practices have led to an over-representation of Black people in our homelessness system. Compared to 2024, in 2025 Black/African American/African Coloradans made up less of the homeless population in the Denver Metro Region (18.1% compared to 23.5%), however, they are still 3xs overrepresented in the homelessness population compared to the general population (18.1 vs. 6%), according to 2025 MDHI PIT count data.

Working to dismantle policies that prevent people from accessing fair and equitable housing is a crucial part of our work at CCH. Advocacy at the local, state, and national levels, awareness at the organization level, and cultural responsibility at the individual level are all part of CCH's mission.

✨ Huge thanks to the members of South Denver Masonic Lodge #93 for their incredible generosity!

They assembled 26 cleaning buckets for our clients witch each one stocked with essential supplies to help keep a home clean. On top of that, they donated warm coats and cold-weather gear to help keep people safe and warm during this chilly season.

We’re so grateful for your kindness and support! 💙💚

What is the Point-in-Time (PIT) count and why is it important for homeless service providers?

Last week, The Colorado Sun released two articles highlighting the highest # of empty units in years in both apartment vacancies (7.6%) and office vacancies (38.2%). Landlords are offering three months of free rent to high income renters, but still refuse to build non-luxury housing for those in the lowest income brackets.

And thousands of Coloradans remain homeless while units remain empty.

This new data showcases once again that new market-rate construction does not solve the affordable housing crisis. Building housing that is affordable and available to those with limited incomes continues to be the right answer.

Fourth quarter 2025 also saw landlords offering more free rent, gift cards and other concessions than in apartment industry report's 21-year history
