LJDstudios: Voice Lessons and Yoga. Because Your Body is Your Instrument.

LJDstudios: Voice Lessons and Yoga. Because Your Body is Your Instrument. Singing is a whole body experience and I have found that yoga is an excellent tool for teaching voic Ms.

By taking voice lessons you will learn breathing techniques for singing, how to expand your range, and proper alignment for "whole body" singing. For more information, e-mail Laura at laura.jo.davis@gmail.com. Laura Davis is a singer and voice teacher passionately committed to authentic artistry. As a singer she is known for her spontaneous and intuitive musical instincts. As a teacher she is innovative in her approach, developing a language and a method specific to the needs of each individual. Laura believes that everyone has a unique and authentic voice, and as a teacher she strives to uncover this within each of her students. She combines her knowledge of the physiology of the voice and her background in solo and choral singing with her perspective as a yoga practitioner/teacher to create an approach to singing that is holistic and accessible to everyone. It is her belief that when a singer is grounded in a sense of self and an understanding of the physical instrument, that he/she finds confidence and freedom both as a singer and as an individual. Davis holds a Master of Music degree in Voice Pedagogy from the Catholic University of America and a Bachelor of Music degree in Sacred Music from Westminster Choir College. After spending 10 years in New Jersey and Maryland directing choirs in various churches, performing, and teaching voice privately, Laura is excited to return to her home state of Colorado. She currently teaches voice out of her home in Highlands Ranch. Laura has a deep love for music of all kinds, including early baroque and classical, choral, musical theater, country, and alternative. When she’s not in the studio or on her yoga mat, you can find Laura running, hiking, or spending time with her dog, Ripley.

Our Story

LJDstudios has many stories to share. They are the stories of students with dreams both big and small. But ultimately, they are the stories of individuals who know they have something to say and just need a little help figuring out how.

My personal story as a singer is a long one. But that’s not what I’m interested in sharing here. Like any good teacher, it is my students who makeup the story of LJDstudios.

My goal as a teacher is this: to convince you that YOU have something to say. That your body and your voice are one entity, not two. That this body/voice you have been given is a remarkable vehicle for expression and inspiration. That it is not something to be hidden or ashamed of, but is a powerful gift. And that when you live in your body and find your authentic voice, you will be an inspiring and unstoppable force, capable of changing the world with beauty and honesty.

I’ve had students go on to study music at Berkley and perform with Opera Colorado. But my proudest moments as a teacher are those when a student starts to hold her own in her church choir or gets a part in his school play. Or better yet, simply watching a student start to walk upright and with confidence. That’s why I do this. However, if you would like more information on me as an individual and who I am, please do visit my website at www.ljdstudios.com. I’m happy to share it with you.
