LJDstudios: Voice Lessons and Yoga. Because Your Body is Your Instrument.

LJDstudios: Voice Lessons and Yoga. Because Your Body is Your Instrument. Singing is a whole body experience and I have found that yoga is an excellent tool for teaching voic Ms.

By taking voice lessons you will learn breathing techniques for singing, how to expand your range, and proper alignment for "whole body" singing. For more information, e-mail Laura at laura.jo.davis@gmail.com. Laura Davis is a singer and voice teacher passionately committed to authentic artistry. As a singer she is known for her spontaneous and intuitive musical instincts. As a teacher she is innovative in her approach, developing a language and a method specific to the needs of each individual. Laura believes that everyone has a unique and authentic voice, and as a teacher she strives to uncover this within each of her students. She combines her knowledge of the physiology of the voice and her background in solo and choral singing with her perspective as a yoga practitioner/teacher to create an approach to singing that is holistic and accessible to everyone. It is her belief that when a singer is grounded in a sense of self and an understanding of the physical instrument, that he/she finds confidence and freedom both as a singer and as an individual. Davis holds a Master of Music degree in Voice Pedagogy from the Catholic University of America and a Bachelor of Music degree in Sacred Music from Westminster Choir College. After spending 10 years in New Jersey and Maryland directing choirs in various churches, performing, and teaching voice privately, Laura is excited to return to her home state of Colorado. She currently teaches voice out of her home in Highlands Ranch. Laura has a deep love for music of all kinds, including early baroque and classical, choral, musical theater, country, and alternative. When she’s not in the studio or on her yoga mat, you can find Laura running, hiking, or spending time with her dog, Ripley.

I’ve been a little quiet here, and I’ve got some life updates! My son, Wesley Peter, was born on February 23 and I am loving Mom life more than I ever would have imagined. And the busyness of being a mom and a business owner has made me realize something important...I ain’t got time for flashy videos or sexy photos. I’m better suited for long form technical tutorials which you can find on my YouTube channel Singing Tips with LJDstudios. So if you really want to get into the nitty-gritty of vocal technique, hop on over there and find me. I may check in on IG from time to time, but you won’t see nearly as much of me here. I’m too busy loving on my new little one! Thank you all for your support and happy singing!

📣 Interrupting my usual programming for a personal/professional update!

✨ I’m so excited to now be 36 weeks pregnant and going LIVE with on her Youtube Channel Fertility From the Soul this Thursday at 11:30 am MDT to discuss vocal alignment for recording personal affirmations.

✨The path to pregnancy was not the easiest for me. My husband and I were committed to a natural pregnancy, but it took some time. I never could have prepared myself for the emotional roller coaster we were on for almost 2 years.

✨During that time I discovered the power of using my inner voice and my physical voice to create personal affirmations. I recorded phrases that felt true and authentic to me and listened to them daily. They were a huge help in keeping me focused and positive throughout the journey.

✨Finding your voice is more than just singing. Ask anyone who has ever taken a voice lesson. Our voices are so intrinsically linked to our sense of identity, that often times in finding our voice, we find deeper truths about ourselves.

Not in my usual teaching space, but here’s a quick exercise to help you feel how the pelvic floor works in singing!

BONUS the word “Lam” is the sound associated with the first chakra, so you’re getting into your lower body both physically and energetically.

Want more vocal tips? The LJDstudios Singer’s Toolbox is up and ready! Message me for more info!

I refuse to say good riddance to 2021. Sure it had its lows, but it also had its highs. I have no doubt that 2022 will be no different, and I for one am looking forward to it!

Happy New Year!

Can you give me some exercises to practice?

Sure!!! But it depends on what you want to achieve. Lots of exercises can be done in different ways. The most important part is that you are practicing with an intention.

I’ve been hunkered down all weekend determined to finish the LJDstudios Singer’s Toolbox. It’s got EVERY vocal exercise I know with detailed explanations of how and why to use each one.

One if the most common questions I get is, “how do I warmup?” So I’ve included a large section of basic warmup exercises.

The best exercises to use for warmups are ones that feel natural and easy right out of the gate. Skill building comes later, so save all of those agility or high note exercises for post warmup.

Here’s a sneak peak at one of my all time favorite warmups. It just feels so nice and easy. Give it a try!

What does this idea mean for your singing?

For me it means starting with the text apart from the music. Spending some time to not only let the meaning of the words sink in, but the sound and vibration.

Next it means spending some time alone with the melody, independent of the words. Singing it on lip trills or vowels.

It feels tedious sometimes, but I’ve learned that if I take the time to go through this step by step process, I get where I want to go more quickly on the long run.

Our Story

LJDstudios has many stories to share. They are the stories of students with dreams both big and small. But ultimately, they are the stories of individuals who know they have something to say and just need a little help figuring out how.

My personal story as a singer is a long one. But that’s not what I’m interested in sharing here. Like any good teacher, it is my students who makeup the story of LJDstudios.

My goal as a teacher is this: to convince you that YOU have something to say. That your body and your voice are one entity, not two. That this body/voice you have been given is a remarkable vehicle for expression and inspiration. That it is not something to be hidden or ashamed of, but is a powerful gift. And that when you live in your body and find your authentic voice, you will be an inspiring and unstoppable force, capable of changing the world with beauty and honesty.

I’ve had students go on to study music at Berkley and perform with Opera Colorado. But my proudest moments as a teacher are those when a student starts to hold her own in her church choir or gets a part in his school play. Or better yet, simply watching a student start to walk upright and with confidence. That’s why I do this. However, if you would like more information on me as an individual and who I am, please do visit my website at www.ljdstudios.com. I’m happy to share it with you.
