Vitamin K is a fat-soluble nutrient that helps our bodies make blood clots to stop bleeding. Adults and older children get vitamin K from foods like leafy greens, meat, dairy and eggs. But babies have very little vitamin K in their bodies at birth, putting them at risk for dangerous bleeding problems.
