Next up in our Center Director spotlight series is Paul Bretz, CEO of Centus Counseling Center in Denver, Colorado:

Paul A. Bretz, D.Min., LCSW, MHSA, is passionate about high quality, accessible, spiritually integrated behavioral healthcare. His professional experience includes a range of pastoral, clinical, and behavioral healthcare organizational leadership roles.

Dr. Bretz is a graduate of Wheaton College, McCormick Theological Seminary, The University of Chicago: School of Social Service Administration, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and Regis University. Paul is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a member of the National Association of Social Workers Academy of Certified Social Workers, an ordained Minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist and Workshop Presenter.

A recent study has shown that when couples hold hands, their brainwaves sync and reported pain levels are lower (Goldstein et al., 2018). The simple act of holding hands may be more powerful than it seems, especially for people experiencing pain.
