🏫 Denver Health's School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) support both student health and future health care careers.

Our Health Care Entry Program (HCEP) provides paid, entry-level opportunities for recent Denver Public Schools graduates interested in the medical field. Trainees gain hands-on experience supporting SBHC clinic operations while exploring career pathways including Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, Phlebotomy and EMT training programs.

Angeles Chagolla, an Abraham Lincoln High School student, joined HCEP after learning about the program through her school’s SBHC. Working alongside Denver Health teams and witnessing equitable, high-quality care firsthand inspired her to continue building her future within health care and at Denver Health.

Since launching, HCEP trainees have advanced into clinical training programs and full-time roles across our system, strengthening the health care workforce while expanding opportunity for local students. 👏 💙

👀 Denver, there’s a new view on Speer Boulevard.

Denver Health leaders gathered this week to unveil our new “Most Trusted” banners, now proudly displayed on the north side of our OMC garage and on our Emergency Department along 8th Avenue.

Featuring more than 60 Denver Health providers photographed on our helipad, the banners represent the more than 8,000 team members who care for our community every day.

🚁 You might hear some extra noise in the skies over Denver Health today.

This afternoon, between 12:45-1:45 p.m. the Colorado National Guard will conduct scheduled helicopter training at our main campus, including at least two landings on our Pavilion A helipad. Community members may notice increased activity and temporary noise nearby.

These exercises strengthen coordination and preparedness in the event that emergency response helicopters are needed to transport patients. Hospital operations and patient care will continue as usual. 💙

The recent passing of James Van Der Beek has sparked national conversation about colore**al cancer and the importance of screening.

“We are seeing people present earlier and earlier, sometimes even in their 30’s, so it is really scary to see,” said Sonia Okuyama, MD, division chief of oncology at Denver Health.

For average-risk adults, screening now begins at 45. When caught early, the five-year survival rate is above 90%.

Do not ignore symptoms like re**al bleeding, persistent abdominal pain or changes in bowel habits.

In 2022, Ellen experienced a heart attack at home while watching a gripping Serena Williams U.S. Open match. A friend rushed her to Denver Health’s Emergency Department, where our care teams saved her life. But her recovery journey had just begun.

Over the past three and a half years, Ellen has rebuilt strength, regained confidence and found a trusted community through Denver Health's Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise and Education Program.

🏫 ⚕️ In honor of School-Based Health Care (SBHC) Awareness Month, we are highlighting how teens and providers build stronger, more trusting relationships through the PATCH Program. 🤝

PATCH (Providers and Teens Communicating for Health) is an evidence-based youth empowerment program that brings teen voices into health care spaces. Each school year, Denver Health partners with a group of teens to lead workshops focused on improving the patient provider relationship and helping teens feel heard, respected and supported in their care.

We are proud to highlight our SBHCs and programs like PATCH. 💙
