🎅 Every year, Santa visits the Denver Health NICU to spread holiday cheer to families and celebrate babies experiencing their very first holiday season.

To support infection prevention and safety, nurses and doctors step into the roles of Santa and his elf rather than welcoming a volunteer Santa. What began as a safety-focused approach quickly became a beloved tradition that continues each year.

This year, Dr. Cor, one of our pediatric residents, brought Santa to life alongside a NICU nurse who played the jolly elf. Together, they shared coffee and cookies with families, took photos with the babies, and gifted printed photos as keepsakes for loved ones.

The event was hosted by our NICU Patient and Family Advisory Committee (PFAC), whose continued support helps make moments like these possible. 💙✨

Earlier this month, John McMenamy, MD, MBA, CPE, CMQ, represented Denver Health at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 's annual meeting in Chicago, one of the largest medical conferences in the world.

As part of Denver Health’s collaboration with Siemens Healthineers, Dr. McMenamy joined radiology leaders from Wake Forest University School of Medicine for a short podcast conversation highlighting the value this work brings to their institutions, how it improves patient care, and how it better supports the people delivering that care, including CT technologists.

📣 Flu season is in full swing, and Colorado is seeing increased activity, with state health officials reporting rising flu hospitalizations and the first influenza-associated pediatric death of the season.

💫 Denver Health’s inaugural Academic Affairs Awards brought together faculty and staff to celebrate excellence across research, education and clinical practice. As a learning health system, we are proud to honor the people who turn critical research into better care for our patients every day.

Chief Medical Officer Read Pierce, MD, opened the evening before Interim Chief Research Officer Randy C. Miles, MD, MPH, and Chief Education Officer Abraham Nussbaum, MD, presented individual and team awards. The room was lively and warm, reflected in the energy of Judy Shlay, MD, associate director of the Public Health Institute at Denver Health, whose enthusiasm and high fives matched the moment.
