🏆 We’re proud to share that Denver Health has achieved Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Verification from the American College of Surgeons.

Denver Health is now one of only 13 hospitals nationwide to earn this distinction and the only hospital in the Rocky Mountain region with this recognition.

This achievement reflects the incredible work of our EGS surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, educators, liaisons, and administrators who collaborated to develop new care pathways, protocols, and quality standards to improve emergency surgical care.

We are grateful for the dedication of everyone who helped make this possible and proud to continue advancing our mission of delivering exceptional, trusted care to our community. 💙

🍄 As psychedelic use continues to rise across the U.S., having reliable, real-world data is more important than ever.

We are proud to announce that researchers at the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety (RMPDS) at Denver Health have been awarded a prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH) R01 grant to advance research on how psychedelic use and evolving policies impact health outcomes.

Through the National Survey Investigating Hallucinogenic Trends (NSIHT), a first-of-its-kind national survey collecting data on use patterns and health outcomes, this work will help clinicians, policymakers and public health leaders better understand risks, identify safeguards and prepare for changes in access.

These insights will help guide safer care and stronger public health decisions across our community. 💙

💙 Patient safety is always our top priority.

During , we are recognizing the teams across Denver Health who work every day to deliver safe, trusted care for our patients and community.

Patient safety means preventing harm, reducing risk and continuously improving how care is delivered. Behind the scenes, our teams use evidence-based practices, data monitoring, infection prevention protocols and strong communication to help ensure every patient receives the safest care possible.

As part of the week, Lindsey Fish, MD, Chief of Urgent Care, joined CBS Colorado to highlight how Denver Health prioritizes safety across our hospital, clinics and emergency care settings and how patients and families can partner with care teams to support safe care.

✨🍄 New research from Denver Health’s Rocky Mountain Poison & Drug Safety (RMPDS) provides insight into how psychedelic policy changes may affect substance use.

Published today in JAMA, the study found that increases in the use of psilocybin, commonly known as magic mushrooms, are independently linked to state decriminalization policies. In Colorado and Oregon, researchers estimate 85,000 to 110,000 additional people may be using psilocybin annually following policy changes.

Led by Joshua Black, PhD, MS, Senior Statistical Scientist at RMPDS, the research used advanced statistical methods to isolate the independent impact of policy changes from broader cultural and media trends.

“These findings underscore a critical reality for policymakers and public health leaders,” said Kate Reynolds, MPH, Director of Research at RMPDS. “As psychedelic policies evolve, the greatest public health impacts are likely happening outside regulated systems. RMPDS is uniquely positioned to help governments understand and anticipate those impacts with independent, data-driven evidence.”

🤖 💙 Students from GALS Denver recently returned to Denver Health for a hands-on look at the world of surgical robotics in orthopedics.

The group explored how our surgeons use the da Vinci Xi Surgical System to perform advanced minimally invasive procedures. They even got the chance to try the robotic controls themselves and see how technology, engineering and medicine come together in the operating room.

Women represent only about 7.5% of practicing orthopedic surgeons nationwide, underscoring the importance of early exposure and mentorship. Experiences like this help expand what young women see as possible in medicine.

Denver Health is proud to be a trusted community partner building pathways for the next generation of scientists, surgeons and innovators.

Tonight, 9NEWS (KUSA) highlighted the visit on Next with Kyle Clark.

Denver Health had a great time at the kickoff of CBS Colorado’s Girls & Science series last week at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Students and families stopped by our booth to learn about careers in health care, explore STEM pathways and put their surgical skills to the test with a few rounds of Operation.

Special thanks to our host, presenting partners and everyone who joined the fun. We are grateful to be part of moments like these that inspire the next generation of women in STEM. 💫

🏫 Denver Health’s School-based Health Centers (SBHCs) help students stay healthy, in school and ready to learn.

In a recent Great Day Colorado segment, Kelli Shanahan, pediatric APP, highlighted how these clinics provide convenient, high-quality care directly on school campuses. Care teams treat common illnesses, support students with chronic conditions and provide services like sports physicals, behavioral health care and dental care at select locations.

Denver Health operates 19 SBHCs across Denver Public Schools, with a new location planned at Northfield High School that will expand access to trusted care for even more students. 💙
