Tired of being cooped up indoors with baby? Bundle up and get moving with a guided Baby Walk with naturalist Laura Bush. We will enjoy the company of other caregivers and learn some nature facts along the way! Join us this Friday at Echo Hill Park in Clinton Township at 9:30 AM with your baby ages 23 months and younger. Due to the snowy trails, we are planning to walk the driveways of the park, so bring a stroller or carrier. It’s a huge emotional release when baby is born. The weight of months, maybe years of preparing, then hours maybe days of being in labor and then minutes maybe hours of pushing, placed on your chest in the form of a warm, wet, and wiggly little human. The birthing person has to keep their s**t together for so long that when baby is finally born, it is a huge release. It is always very emotional, as a doula, to be by a mom’s side when this happens. We just continue to hold the space. Mom doesn’t quite need comforting at this moment, more the time, space and support to process the release. Brava to this mother for ensuring the journey & thank you to the family for letting me share this photo.

Also, just a reminder that childbirth is a broken system in our country and the horrible statistics around black maternal and infant mortality and morbidity simply reveal WHERE the cracks in the system are. It doesn't mean it only applies to black people! They are simply affected the most or first. So if you need even more motivation to fight this epidemic, maybe that info will help.
