Stephen Giroux with Wurlitzer Family Pharmacy says it’s a tragedy to see Rite Aid leave New York, however, this outlines a deeply rooted problem in the pharmaceutical industry — Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM).

Rite-Aid has announced they are closing all of their New York State stores. They have previously done this in Ohio and Michigan. They have been in bankruptcy. Years ago they downsized and sold some of their pharmacies to Walgreens. They have closed a couple local locations previously. This is yet another indication that Congress and the FTC need to act to rectify the problem of PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Managers) monopolies! Caremark, Express Scripts and Optum Rx are causing pharmacies to close at a very rapid clip. (4000 nationally last year!) We hope the results of our long time advocacy work will come soon. In the mean time, for those folks displaced by the closing of Rite Aids, our pharmacies are here to continue to serve patients at a highly professional and personal way to help you get the most out of your Pharmaceutical Care. Please let your family and friends know its best to act now to transfer thier prescriptions if they would like, before their prescriptions get moved to a pharmacy not of their own choice OR get prescribers to send prescriptions to us now- we will put on hold - until they need them.

On Thursday 1/5/22 from 9:30am-1pm we will be hosting a covid shot testing clinic. We can now check to see if you are in need of a booster dose for your covid vaccine. This will be hosted in partnership with with KSL labs. A simple finger stick, and once tested, they can tell your current vaccination Status. Stop in to see how its done. This test may be covered by insurance.
