🎉 Happy Homecoming! 🎉

Parades can be exciting — full of color, music, and fun! But for children with autism, the sights and sounds can sometimes feel overwhelming. Here are a few helpful tips to make the experience more enjoyable for everyone:

👂 Prepare for the noise – Bring noise-reducing headphones or earplugs to help manage loud sounds like sirens or marching bands.

👀 Find a calm spot – Choose a place away from the main crowd, such as the end of the route or a quiet corner where your child can still see but feels more comfortable.

🕒 Arrive early – Giving your child time to adjust to the environment before things get busy can help reduce anxiety.

💬 Use visuals or social stories – Talk through what to expect at the parade (crowds, floats, candy, sounds) so your child feels prepared.

🎈 Bring comfort items – Favorite toys, snacks, or fidgets can offer reassurance and help regulate sensory needs.

❤️ Take breaks as needed – It’s okay to step away for a quiet moment! Flexibility helps everyone have a better experience.

At Blue Light, we believe in creating joyful experiences for everyone – even on parade days!
