🦠 Did You Know?
Right here in the U.S., over 2.8 MILLION antimicrobial-resistant infections occur every year… and more than 35,000 people lose their lives because of them. 😔
(From the CDC’s 2019 Antibiotic Resistance Report)
👇 5 Things You Need to Know About Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR):
1️⃣ AMR happens when germs outsmart the medications meant to kill them.
It does NOT mean your body becomes resistant. It’s the germs that learn to survive. 🧬
2️⃣ Anyone can be affected.
Resistant infections are harder—sometimes impossible—to treat, often leading to longer hospital stays, more doctor visits, and costly or toxic treatments. 🏥💊
3️⃣ Healthy habits matter!
Good hygiene, handwashing, staying up to date on vaccines, and preventing infections help stop the spread of resistant germs. ✋🧼
4️⃣ Use antibiotics & antifungals wisely.
They don’t work for viruses like colds or the flu. Always talk with your provider before using them.
⚠️ And if you’re taking these medications, tell your doctor if you have 3+ episodes of diarrhea in 24 hours.
5️⃣ Travel recently? Tell your provider.
AMR is found worldwide and can spread through travel, trade, hospitals, farms, and communities. 🌍✈️
