🌟 New Library Location Alert! 📚💜

We’re thrilled to announce a new Little Free Library on the MakeICT campus located at 5920 E. Mt. Vernon, right across from Cessna Park!

It’s the perfect spot surrounded by schools, parks, and neighborhoods. A great place to grab a good read or leave one to share with others.

MakeICT is an incredible community space that helps people create, learn, and collaborate at the intersection of art, science, and technology. Their 22,000 sq. ft. makerspace is filled with tools and equipment for every kind of maker — think of it as a gym for your creativity! 💡

While you’re there, take a book or leave a book and check out all that MakeICT has to offer!

📖✨ Thank you to the MakeICT team for helping us make adventures (and imagination) possible for all!

This month, we’re honoring Kayven and all those living with epilepsy by wearing purple for Epilepsy Awareness Month.

💜 Wear purple for Kayven.
💜 Wear purple for awareness.
💜 Wear purple to spark conversation and share hope.

If you’d like a purple ribbon to wear as a reminder to always stand with those affected by epilepsy, send us a message — we’d love to mail you one!

Thank you Championship Martial Arts of Derby for helping Kayven to build confidence, strength and have fun.

💜 Epilepsy Awareness Month 💜

At Kayven’s Helping Hands, we know epilepsy affects far more than the brain-it can impact the entire body.

From confusion and headaches to muscle loss and depression, every part feels the storm. Epilepsy is more than seizures, it’s a daily fight for balance, strength, and control.

Did you know epilepsy can affect so many systems in the body? ⚡🧠💜

Around 470,000 children and teens in the U.S. live with epilepsy. Every school should know how to respond to seizures and keep students safe. It’s not optional—it’s essential. 💜📚

💜 Meet Camden💜

We’re honored to introduce Camden, a brave local boy living with SYNGAP1-related epilepsy.

What you’ll see are absence seizures — brief “pause” moments that may look like daydreaming, but are actually tiny electrical storms in the brain.

Absence seizures are common in children and can happen dozens of times a day, often unnoticed. Each one interrupts learning and focus, making school and daily life more challenging.

Thank you The Cure for Camden for sharing his story to help raise awareness and reminds us how important early recognition and understanding are. 💜

Let’s keep learning, supporting, and showing love to families like Camden’s.

💜 Epilepsy Awareness Month 💜

Did you know that not all seizures look the same?
Many people imagine seizures as full-body convulsions — but that’s only one type. Seizures can also appear as:

👀 A blank stare
🧍 Muscle rigidity or jerking
😕 Confusion or loss of awareness
🌀 Repetitive movements
💭 Sudden mood swings or sensory changes (“auras”)

This November, help us break the myths and spread understanding. Awareness saves lives — and compassion makes all the difference. 💜

💜 We’d love your input!

Kayven’s Helping Hands is working on a new project — creating Epilepsy Resource Kits for kids and families 💼✨. These kits will include comfort items, helpful info, and resources for when a child is newly diagnosed, undergoing EEG testing, or spending time in the hospital.

We want to make sure these kits truly meet the needs of families — and that’s where you come in! 💬

If you’re a parent, caregiver, or patient living with epilepsy, please take just a few minutes to share your experiences and ideas in our short 10-question survey.

💜 What helped most during hospital stays or testing?
💜 What do you wish you’d known sooner?
💜 What resources or comfort items made a difference?

Your feedback will help us design meaningful, supportive kits for children across Kansas.

💜 November is Epilepsy Awareness Month!

It’s a time to shine a light on the many ways epilepsy affects lives — including one you may not think about often… dental health! 😁🪥

People living with epilepsy face some unique oral health challenges, such as:
✨ Higher rates of cavities, gum disease, and worn teeth
✨ Side effects from seizure medications like gum overgrowth or dry mouth
✨ Mouth or jaw injuries that can happen during a seizure
✨ Increased risk of decay from medication or anxiety-related dental avoidance

Because of all this, good daily dental care and regular checkups are extra important for those living with epilepsy. 🦷💪

A huge thank you to Delta Dental of Kansas for supporting our mission and helping us spread smiles across Kansas! 💚

We’re excited to offer FREE “Smile Kits” (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and more!) to kids or adults who’d like one. Just send us a message, and we’ll happily drop one in the mail or deliver locally! 📬

Let’s keep spreading awareness — and smiles — all month long!
