We had an amazingly good time on Monday at Beauregard Council on Aging with community educating our Seniors with Generation Rx Safe Medication Practices using the Senior Module. They were grateful to receive the education along with a medication lock bags.

Seems we've been quiet this month in October??? Not really, we've been pretty busy. Participating in various community events. School health and resource fairs in our 5 Parish area, drug take back day, mental health first aid course, training and implementing new prevention programming for schools. And participating in Red Ribbon Week by providing cups to our students that say, "Life is a puzzle, live drug free"! All exciting prevention work and we absolutely love every minute of it!!! "An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure" (Benjamin Franklin, 1735).

In conjunction to DPD, BPSO also has a medication disposal box in the lobby area as well as all substations to dispose of expired medications safely. Medication lock bags and medication disposal bags are also available to the public. For persons needing either of these items please contact the Beauregard Prevention Coalition (Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority) at (337) 462-1641 (ext. 0367) Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

The DeRidder Police Department will be participating in the DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
We encourage community members to bring any expired, unused, or unwanted prescription medications for safe and secure disposal. This event helps prevent medication misuse and keeps our community safe.

Grand afternoon. Help me congratulate our 8 Mental Health First Aiders who successfully completed the course this past Saturday on October 18th, 2025. Congratulations to the Interim Pastor of Beech Grove Baptist Church and some of the members along with our community partners at Cross Ties for successfully completing the course!!! Thank you to our partners at the Beauregard Sheriff Office for accommodating this training for us.

The Beauregard Prevention Coalition would like to extend its gratitude to all community leaders, schools, and various businesses who participated in The You Matter Campaign initially started by KPLC TV anchor Rhonda Kitchens in raising awareness to prevent su***de. We are a community who cares! Every Life Matters YOU MATTER! Su***de is preventable. Self-care is important. Identifying and expressing thoughts and feelings are important. September is identified to raise awareness of su***de, make a note that it’s important to learn, know, and watch for changing patterns in behaviors to include isolation among other signs.
