Hi everyone,

We’ve got a quick announcement to share: Jump the Wake is going on a little hiatus while we, your fearless (and slightly frazzled) founders, reorganize and dive headfirst into some new adventures. Don’t worry—this group isn’t disappearing! Think of it as a brief nap so we can wake up refreshed and ready to bring you even better content.

In the meantime, keep this group bookmarked! We’ll be back before you know it, better rested and hopefully with fewer sticky notes stuck to our foreheads.
Thanks for being such an amazing part of this community—we can’t wait to pick things up again soon.

Catch you on the other side of the wake!

Warmly,

Porter and Frederique

Let’s talk tech. 📲 Smart phones are everywhere. And let’s be honest, they can be so helpful. The trouble is managing them.

Smart phones are literally designed using behavior modification techniques so that, rather than us controlling them, they actually end up controlling us. Read that again. 🛑

Smart phones and all the apps they run are designed with the help of psychological experts using strategies designed to modify your behavior. The goal? 🎯That you will become increasingly dependent on and attached to your phone.

This is a common problem I address with clients in my clinical practice. Many of these sre successful, accomplished grown ups with jobs and families who struggle to have a healthy relationship with this little box that fits in their pocket. 🪝

When smart phones and screens dominate your attention the cost is often higher than you realize:

✔️Your sense of well being declines as you are inundated with images designed to make you feel dissatisfied (this makes you are a better consumer ) Relationships suffer.
✔️ Your focus and attention suffer as you are pulled from on attention grabbing topic to the next- most if which you did not choose
✔️ Your mental health declines as your brain becomes a customed to frequent hits of dopamine, requiring more and more to feel good.
✔️ Your health suffers as you move less, spend less time outdoors, are more likely to eat mindlessly and forget to hydrate, all while engaging in harmful posture that can do real damage in the long run.
✔️ Your relationships suffer as you are less connected to yourself and others and more withdrawn.

And the list goes on….

Having a healthy relationship with your phone IS possible - but it takes awareness and intention. 🎗️

(Ps. The irony that I am writing this on my phone and that you, in all likelihood are reading it on yours, is not lost on me! 🤣🤣🤣).

We are all born with a powerful intuition 💫. But, with time, most people lose their ability to hear or trust their intuition. They confuse anxiety 😥 or cultural conditioning with intuition and act on these only to be disappointed or hurt. But there is a way to reconnect to your instincts 💛 and learn to recognize the difference between intuition and reactivity so that life begins to flow more easily, more joyfully.

How tuned into your intuition are you? Do you rely on intuition to help you make decisions? Or is it hard for you to trust your gut?

Happy Sacred Saturday! This morning we explore the healing power of Iceland’s Gullfoss Waterfall

If you’ve ever been to Iceland, you know it’s a land of extraordinary natural wonders—and Gullfoss Waterfall is no exception. Often called the “Golden Falls,” Gullfoss is more than just a breathtaking sight. It’s long been considered a place of healing, both for the soul and the body.

Gullfoss gets its name from the golden hue often seen in its water when sunlight hits it just right. The Hvítá River, which feeds the falls, carries glacial sediment from Langjökull glacier, creating a shimmering golden effect under the sun’s rays. The name perfectly reflects the magical beauty of this place, where rainbows frequently arch across the mist and the rushing water feels alive with energy.

For centuries, people have marveled at the sheer power of this double cascade, which plunges into a dramatic canyon surrounded by mist and light. Gullfoss holds a special place in Icelandic history, not only for its beauty but also for its symbolism as a natural treasure. Historically, locals would bring offerings to this sacred spot, believing the falls to be a source of cleansing and renewal.

The benefits of Gullfoss go beyond folklore. Modern science explains why spending time near waterfalls like this can leave you feeling refreshed and recharged. Waterfalls generate negative ions, which are tiny, electrically charged particles that can have a profound impact on your well-being. Research shows that negative ions help increase serotonin levels, boost energy, and reduce stress. They’ve even been linked to improved sleep and enhanced immune function.

Gullfoss, in particular, is a sensory feast. The thunderous roar of the falls drowns out mental chatter, helping you feel more present and grounded. The sight of the rushing water invites awe—a feeling proven to lower cortisol and promote a sense of connection. And the cool mist on your skin is like nature’s own rejuvenating spa.

A visit to Gullfoss can truly be described as transformative. it’s common for visitors to leave feeling lighter, calmer, and more connected to themselves after spending time by these powerful falls.

Although Iceland has become far more accessible over the last 20 years, for most visiting Gullfoss isn’t exactly an easy day trip. So, if you want to experience the benefits of this magical waterfall but can’t make it to Gullfoss right now, here are some ideas for how to tap into the healing power of water from home:

🌊 Set up a tabletop fountain or humidifier: Let the sound and moisture create a calming atmosphere.

🌿 Get out into nature: Rivers, streams, and even forest trails are great sources of negative ions.

🕯️ Use sensory elements: Try listening to waterfall soundscapes, lighting an earthy-scented candle, or meditating with nature imagery.

Have you ever visited Gullfoss or another powerful waterfall? Tell us about your experience! Nature has so much wisdom to offer if we take the time to listen. 💦

Emotional regulation starts with permission to feel. 💛 So often we struggle bc we were taught that only some feelings are reasonable while others are not.

For the rest of this week, try to notice which feelings are easier for you to tolerate and which you resist. Reflect on why one feeling seems more acceptable than another. Observing your reactions to your own feelings may seem hard or awkward or even pointless at first, but it is actually a powerful step towards healing. ❤️‍🩹

We often overestimate what we can do in a day but underestimate what we can achieve in a few months or years. Transformation doesn’t happen overnight—it happens through small, consistent actions.

Think about it:
✨ It takes 30 days to build a habit, but that habit can shape your next 30 years.
💪 A 1-hour workout keeps you feeling good for the next 12 hours.
🌅 A 30-minute morning routine sets the tone for the rest of the day.
📖 Spending 5 hours reading a book gives you knowledge that lasts forever.
🎯 Learning a new skill in 3 months could open doors to new opportunities—even millions.

The secret? Getting started.

Most people wait for the “right time,” but the truth is, the perfect time doesn’t exist. Success comes from taking action, even when it feels small.

If you’ve been struggling to build good habits, the 21-Day Ripple Effect Program is here to help. In just three weeks, you’ll create routines that stick, set yourself up for success, and gain momentum toward the life you want.
