When Joseph was having trouble breathing, his wife knew she had to get him to the closest ER, and fast. She chose our freestanding ER in Plaistow. And thanks to the quick action of the Plaistow ER team, Joseph is doing well.

"Dr. Cohen saved my husband's life," Deborah said.

Read more about Joseph's experience below.

"On the morning of November 24, 2025, my husband (Joseph) woke me up and said he was having trouble breathing, and his chest was tight. I quickly made the decision to drive him to the Plaistow ER as it’s the closest emergency room to our home. When we arrived, he was seen right away. My husband had a chest X-ray and several other tests done. Dr. Cohen then determined my husband needed a CAT scan for his throat. The CAT scan showed that his throat had a tumor mass on his tonsil.

Dr. Cohen contacted Dr. Azar of Portsmouth Family ENT in Portsmouth to arrange a consultation. My husband ended up having tonsil cancer and has since had successful treatment. Today, he is doing well and continuing his follow-up treatments.

Dr. Cohen saved my husband’s life. He was determined to make sure whatever was happening to my husband was identified and addressed. I don’t believe that high level of attention to detail and time spent would’ve happened at a hospital emergency room given how busy they can be, especially in the winter.

Not only were we seen immediately, but the care was very personalized. My husband and I felt like we were the only ones who mattered, and Dr. Cohen and the team’s attention to my husband was incredible. The care my husband received was beyond whatever we’ve experienced before in an emergency room, and we’ve been in many emergency rooms over the years.

Our family considers Plaistow ER our community emergency room as it’s close, safe, and has amazing staff. The facility also has the equipment and expertise to make us feel very comfortable with using their services. For us, it’s like night and day having a freestanding emergency room near us. It’s less intimidating, less overwhelming, and we always receive more attention from staff.
We are so very grateful for the Plaistow ER and highly recommend the facility. It has proven to be a vital resource for us, and we feel so fortunate that it is the closest emergency room to our home."

Do you know what your numbers mean? They can reveal far more about your health than you might think. Blood pressure naturally rises and falls throughout the day, but when it stays high, your risk rises too. 📈

Nearly half of Americans have high blood pressure, often with no symptoms — that’s why high blood pressure is known as the “silent killer.”
