The Altar has been prepared for St. Joseph’s Celebration at Scottish Rite Park today. Historically, this custom came about in Sicily in the Middle Ages during a drought. The feudal landowners in desperation turned to St. Joseph, the patron saint of Italy, & promised him if the rains would come, they would prepare a feast in his honor. When the rains miraculously came, the landowners set up public banquet tables & invited the poor to partake. After that, the practice spread & anyone seeking favors would invite the poor, orphans, & elderly into their homes.
