After two and half years, we are closing Sana Vita Health, PC. Our caterpillar phase, while enlightening and interesting, has come to an end. Look for Dr. Abendroth and Coach Melissa to re-emerge next year as something a little different.

We're not sure about the name -- maybe Abendroth Medical? It won't be primary care anymore (too much admin work for a doc with no staff), and it won't be subscription based. We will focus on nutrition, lifestyle, and a fusion of the best aspects of conventional, integrative, and functional medicine. The goal isn't just to prevent and reverse disease, but also to help you perform at your highest level until the very end. Stay tuned!

Add healthy years to your life! A new study in PLOS shows that eating a "Mediterranean" diet (whole, unprocessed foods, mostly plant-based with some fish) adds many years to life expectancy depending on how early in life you start eating healhty. Even if you don't start until age 60 their data shows 8+ years of increased life expectancy.

Quality tips for reducing your dietary carbon footprint. The one they say the least about is probably the most significant.

Carpooling, biking and public transit are all obvious ways to decrease your impact on the environment. Additionally, there are plenty of easy shopping-related actions to lighten your carbon foodprint while eating healthier.

Some of my patients are asking me about the vaccine, if they should get it, etc.

To be clear, YES, unequivocally, you should get it. The evidence is very strong that Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are incredibly safe and highly effective. Yes, Delta is breaking through some, but the vaccine is still working very well. If everyone who can get it does so, we would be entirely out of this mess. It is mind-blowing how much fake news and deliberate misinformation there is out there. Tune it out; get the vaccine.

A single course of antibiotics can reduce the microbial diversity in your gut, often permanently. Make sure you take the proper precautions if you do need to take antibiotics (it's not just a course of probiotics!) and be sure your doctor is prescribing them appropriately.
