He has been here before. And he came back for a reason.

Seven years ago, he was facing surgery after a serious arm injury. Instead, he chose a regenerative approach and the results changed everything. Within weeks, he was back to doing what he loved completely pain free.

Now he is back again, trusting the same process that helped him avoid surgery the first time.

When patients return, it says more than anything we could ever claim. It means the results lasted. It means the care made a difference. It means there is another way forward.

What actually happens during a bone marrow procedure?

In this video, Dr. Bergum explains how our bone marrow process is designed to make the procedure more comfortable while improving effectiveness. Instead of simply placing cells in one location, the goal is to help your body respond and heal in the right environment.

The bone marrow concentrate contains your own stem cells and healing cells. These are carefully injected into the targeted area so they stay where they are needed. Platelets are also used around the site to support the healing response.

Movement is an important part of the recovery process. Patients are encouraged to keep the joint moving and flexible. Physical therapy is often included to help guide that process and support long term improvement.

At Regenexx Des Moines, every step is focused on precision, comfort, and helping your body heal naturally.

When most people hear “bone marrow procedure,” they imagine something painful. The reality is very different when it is done with the right technique.

In this video, Dr. Bergum explains how our bone marrow concentrate procedure is designed to be more comfortable and more effective for patients. The inside of the bone contains pressure sensors, which means pulling large amounts of marrow at once can cause discomfort. Our approach avoids that.

Instead, we draw small amounts of marrow from multiple spots. This helps reduce pressure changes that patients would normally feel and also allows us to collect higher quality cells. The goal is simple. Better cells. Better precision. Better outcomes.

Using advanced imaging like fluoroscopy and ultrasound, we guide every step of the process so treatments are accurate, safe, and tailored to the patient’s specific joint or injury.

If you are dealing with joint pain and looking for alternatives to surgery, regenerative medicine may offer another path forward.

What does a knee evaluation at Regenexx actually look like?

This video captures a real conversation between Dr. Bergum and one of our patients during a knee evaluation. You will hear how treatment options are discussed, how questions are answered, and how we guide patients through the decision making process.

At Regenexx, we believe patients deserve to fully understand their options. During an evaluation, we review symptoms, imaging, and goals so the right treatment plan can be developed. That plan may include regenerative options such as platelet rich plasma or other advanced procedures depending on the condition.

Another important part of Regenexx care is our commitment to data. Clinics across the network track patient outcomes to measure pain relief and functional improvement over time.

If you are dealing with knee pain and want to understand your options before considering surgery, start with an evaluation.

If you are dealing with lingering hip pain and want to stay active without jumping straight to surgery, this is worth seeing.

In this video, we are performing a hip platelet rich plasma booster for one of our patients. This targeted procedure uses your body’s own healing properties to support tissue repair and reduce inflammation. Every step is performed with precision imaging guidance to ensure accuracy, safety, and effectiveness.

We take extra care to maximize comfort throughout the procedure while delivering advanced regenerative treatment designed to help you move better and feel stronger.

What if ankle pain was the only thing standing between you and your next adventure?

One of our recent patients loves to travel and stay active. From skiing in Japan to hiking the Dolomites and snorkeling in Hawaii, movement is a big part of their life. But ankle pain began limiting how far they could hike and even made weight bearing while skiing painful.

They came to Regenexx Des Moines and underwent a platelet procedure on their ankle. Now just three months later, they are back to hiking in Colorado, training for RAGBRAI this summer, and continuing to ramp up activity with the support of physical therapy.

This is what regenerative orthopedic care is about. Helping active people stay active without major surgery.

If pain is limiting your lifestyle, there may be another option.

What if there was another option before total knee replacement?

A groundbreaking 15 year study followed patients who had one knee replaced and the other treated with bone marrow concentrate injections directly into the bone at the joint.

The results were powerful.

86% of patients preferred the knee treated with bone marrow injections over the total knee replacement. The treated knee felt better and functioned better long term. Even more compelling, many total knee replacements required revision surgery within six years, while the injection group showed only about a 1% per year risk of eventually needing replacement.

At Regenexx Des Moines, this is what we do. We use precise image guided bone marrow concentrate procedures for patients with moderate to severe knee arthritis who want to avoid or delay knee replacement surgery.

If you are struggling with knee pain, you may have more options than you think.

We just completed a comprehensive evaluation for a patient with severe knee arthritis and the results were encouraging.

After a thorough assessment, including gait analysis and a deep look at how the foot, ankle, and kneecap are working together, we determined he is a strong candidate for our most advanced regenerative procedure. This includes intraosseous bone augmentation using stem cells and other healing cells from his own bone marrow.

Even with severe arthritis, he has a real opportunity to avoid total knee replacement.

At Regenexx Des Moines, we do not rush to surgery. We take the time to fully evaluate the joint, movement patterns, and underlying biomechanical issues so we can target the true source of pain.

If you have been told knee replacement is your only option, it may be time for a second opinion.
