Don't forget Dr. Tim Vinyard is also at DCH for knee arthroscopy!

Knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that allows the surgeon to examine the inside of the knee joint through small incisions. It is used to diagnose and treat various knee conditions, such as:

Meniscus tears
Ligament injuries (e.g., ACL, PCL)
Cartilage damage
Bone spurs
Synovitis (inflammation of the joint lining)

Procedure:

The patient is typically placed under general or regional anesthesia.
Small incisions are made around the knee joint.
An arthroscope, which is a thin tube with a camera, is inserted into one incision.
Sterile fluid is pumped into the joint to expand it and improve visibility.
The surgeon uses the arthroscope to examine the joint and identify any abnormalities.
If necessary, surgical instruments can be inserted through the other incisions to repair or remove damaged tissue.
The incisions are then closed, and a bandage is applied.

Early Signs of Spinal Stenosis: What to Watch For

As we age, normal wear and tear can gradually narrow the space inside the spinal canal—the area that protects the spinal cord and nerves. When this space becomes too tight, the nerves can become compressed, leading to a condition known as spinal stenosis.

In its early stages, spinal stenosis can be easy to overlook. Symptoms may come and go or feel mild at first, but recognizing them early is key to preventing progression and protecting your long-term mobility.

If you're beginning to notice these symptoms, don’t wait. We can help determine the cause and walk you through your treatment options.

🎉 Student of the Month Spotlight 🎉

Iowa Ortho’s Student of the Month recognizes one outstanding student from the radiology programs we partner with at Mercy College of Health Sciences and Indian Hills Community College. While we value every student who rotates through our clinical site, this recognition is reserved for someone who truly goes above and beyond.

This exceptional student demonstrates strong positioning skills, a willingness to learn and try new things, eagerness to assist with patients, and—above all—provides excellent, patient-centered care. Iowa Ortho is proud to celebrate this student’s dedication, contributions, and hard work.

Congratulations to Alex, our Student of the Month for January! Alex is a 2nd-year Radiologic Technology student at Mercy College of Health Sciences who stands out for her exceptional patient care, strong skills, and confident professionalism. Patients often think she’s already a technologist—not a student!

Way to go, Alex—keep up the amazing work! 👏✨
