Holidays, family dinners, scrolls full of pregnancy announcements🤰 🤳🏼For many, this time of year brings hope. For others, it can stir up pain, grief, or longing.

If you know someone navigating infertility or starting a surrogacy journey, here’s a gentle reminder: what they really need is connection, not pressured remarks.

Ask yourself: “How can I support them without trying to fix, explain, or minimize?”

Offer your presence: a call, a coffee, a simple “I’m here whenever you want to talk.” Respect their pace & privacy (don’t push for updates or explanations). Celebrate their courage and honor their grief. This journey isn’t linear, and it can be hard to see the happy ending when you’re in the thick of it.

To everyone out there waiting, hoping, healing...we see you. May this season bring you gentle strength, love, and compassion.

Good gift ideas for a surrogacy journey (holiday edition) 😊

Whether you're navigating this journey yourself or supporting someone who is, these thoughtful gestures can deepen connection, bring comfort, and honor the love at the center of surrogacy.

🎁 FOR SURROGATES
➡️Starting the Journey
• A special meal before or after a medical appointment — this comfort can go a long way

➡️During Pregnancy
• Curated care packages from Bump-Box
• A prenatal spa service

➡️After Delivery
• Housecleaning or childcare services to support their recovery
• A framed photo or memento of your baby/babies — a symbol of the incredible role they played

💜FOR INTENDED PARENTS
➡️Starting the Journey
• A handwritten note about your hopes and goals for the journey

➡️During Pregnancy
• Framed embryo or ultrasound images
• A recording of the fetal heartbeat (sometimes engraved or placed inside a soft toy)

➡️After Delivery
• A necklace with a small bell worn by the surrogate during pregnancy, gifted to the parents, so the baby can be soothed by a familiar sound
• A memory book or pregnancy journal with notes and photos from the journey

Announced changes to IVF access affect the surrogacy community.

Here’s what you need to know (minus the politics, plus the impact) 👇

💊 Discounted IVF medications are coming
Certain IVF drugs (like Gonal-F + Ovidrel) are set to be offered at deep discounts, easing part of the cost of embryo creation for intended parents paying out of pocket.

💼 Employers can now offer stand-alone IVF benefits
Think dental or vision add-ons, but for fertility care. These plans are optional, not required, but they may help some intended parents access partial IVF coverage.

⏩ Faster approval for fertility medications
More options, more competition, and potentially more accessible IVF care long-term.

💜Why this matters for surrogacy
Every gestational surrogacy journey begins with IVF. Lower medication costs mean an easier entry point for intended parents. But IVF discounts do not affect surrogate compensation, agency fees, legal costs, or medical screening.

If you’re in the surrogacy space (surrogate, intended parent, or supporter), you should know that these changes shape the future of family-building.

➡️ Share it with someone navigating infertility or surrogacy

Yesterday was Giving Tuesday, and we’re recognizing a few organizations doing meaningful work to make family building more accessible! If you’re able, we invite you to explore their missions and support them in whatever way feels right for you 💜

👩 Future Mothers of America
This organization supports “embryo adoption” by helping families adopt embryos that are currently in cryopreservation. They also offer financial support for essential medical expenses, including embryo transfers, medications, and related care.

🤰The Surrogacy Foundation (formerly Gift of Surrogacy)
A nonprofit dedicated to supporting intended parents through the surrogacy process. They offer financial assistance and valuable guidance to help families navigate one of the most important journeys of their lives.

🌸 Give Hope, A Surrogacy Foundation
Focused on helping make surrogacy more accessible through grants, this foundation offers intended parents financial support to help bridge the gap between hope and the reality of growing their family.

Your generosity has the power to create life-changing moments for families around the country!

Thank you for helping us spread hope for this giving season 🙏

💜 What the Heartland team is grateful for this year...

AMBER: Supporting an intended parent who cried through our consult reminded me why this work matters...offering hope is everything! And I’m endlessly grateful for a team that brings that same heart and humanity to every family we serve.

KADIE: I’m grateful for ART attorneys. They’re the quiet heroes ensuring every journey is safe, ethical, and protected. After attending SEEDS, I have an even greater appreciation for their advocacy, especially on the legislative side. Their work keeps families and surrogates supported!

KELSIE: I’ve learned that surrogacy is an act of courage, and that family is something we intentionally create. Grateful to witness it up close!

MONICA: Families grow through this process in ways I never expected. Surrogates and IPs often become family to each other. From the incredible medical teams to every person cheering these families on from afar, we all get to play a small part in something so meaningful.

We’re honored to support every family and surrogate who trusts us with their journey.

What are you feeling grateful for this season? ⤵️

What we learned from The Society for Ethics in Egg Donation and Surrogacy - SEEDS Conference ⤵️

Each year, SEEDS brings together professionals across the surrogacy community to share, learn, and grow, and this year’s insights truly hit home for our team 💜

🌱 Kelsie was reminded how vital advocacy and education are for every gestational carrier. Her own surrogacy experience fuels her passion to ensure every surrogate under our care feels informed, respected, and protected.

🌿 Amber left inspired by discussions on improving ethics and emotional support from earlier screenings to encouraging doula care for all. Because when everyone feels supported, the entire journey becomes stronger.

🌸 Monica reflected on the importance of empathy for both surrogates and intended parents. She was moved by stories that reminded us that connection and compassion must always come first.

➡️ Kadie was reminded how much consistent mental health care matters in surrogacy. Support from the very beginning through post-delivery makes a meaningful difference for everyone involved.

Thank you, SEEDS, for putting on such an enriching conference. And what a fantastic opportunity for our remote team to all meet IRL for the first time 🥳

After 60 hours of trying to stop her labor, delivery was imminent.

Jeremiah was born weighing 3 lbs 7 oz, and Avani weighed 3 lbs 12 oz.

Both spent 52 days in the NICU learning to eat, breathe, and regulate their body temperature. They were surrounded by dedicated nurses, doctors, and therapists who gave them the very best care.

“The hardest part,” Kimberly shared, “was watching them struggle in those early days and feeling incapable of taking care of them on our own and even missing small moments like our baby shower. But the silver lining was learning how to feed, burp, and bathe our babies from incredible neonatal nurses.”

Today, Jeremiah and Avani are vibrant children and beautiful reminders of how resilience, love, and care can change everything 💜

Here are some takeaways from Kimberly’s story:

➡️ Learn the signs of preterm labor: contractions before 37 weeks, unusual pelvic pressure, or leaking fluid.

➡️ Always trust your instincts. If something feels off, talk to your doctor right away.

➡️ Support parents going through the NICU journey. A kind word or small gesture means the world.
